Do you write to please yourself or the readers?

I write to please myself and I write because I want to please others but as the saying goes, you cannot please everybody with what you do. So, I just write and put to mind that I am pleasing the readers. All of us have a purpose why we write and we all want readers to like what we write but sometimes readers don't want what they read.

It depends on what I'm writing. I love to write poetry, and I write that to please myself. But I am a freelance writer, and I write articles for a living. So I write those to please the readers. Well, to please my editors, anyhow. Kelly

Both. As a freelance writer for various print publications, I have the duty to write in a way that would help my readers understand better what I'm talking about. Too, what I write for a certain magazine will largely depend on the style and format dictated by the publishers and editors. Thankfully, I have my personal blogs where I can write about anything I want, when I want to, without the pressures of beating deadlines and having editors calling me "I need your writeup now!" :p Alas, I seldom get to do that when I have several pending assignments I need to focus on for days at a time.

Both. I only write what I enjoy writing, but I try to do it in a way that will atract readers and that they will enjoy. I've done prretty well with that approach, with a blog that was attracting almost 100 visitors a day until I shut it down temporaily for a remodeling.

I'm more of writing to please myself. I enjoy writing for the sake of writing or sharing my story. I don't care if anybody reacts negatively or positively to it, it's just me. Anyhow, it is also good at times to see someone is pleased because of what I wrote, it's a good feeling. Like here in mylot. I don't really care if the author would read or if someone would react to whatever I'm saying. But it does feel good when you find out that someone has chosen your answer to be the best response. It's somehow gratifying. So there you have it. I write because I want to share my thoughts. It's good too if someone reads and appreciates what I wrote. But if not, then it's their loss not mine. Have a great day.

I write to please myself, because if I am truly satisfied with the finished product, then it isn't as big of a deal if somebody else doesn't like it. :) I DO like it when other people like my writing, though. :) I think that it is just human nature. :) I have always gotten good reviews, and they seem genuine, so, I think that I am pretty good at what I do. :)

I never write to please someone else. I write what I think and if someone have problem with this its not my job to make them feel better. It is my oppinion and Im in title to have it. Of course I would never write something to offend anyone only pointed out my opoint of view.

More or less both, lol. Sometimes I write for a cause or an idea, rather than myself or readers, other times I write for money. But often I will write to attempt to provide a service to readers on the net, and usually that corresponds with me writing for myself because it provides me with a sense of organization and expression.

right now, i only write to please myself. i never really liked to be vulnerable and let everyone know what i think and feel. im not ready to let others in. so most of my writing, i just kept it to myself. sort of a journal. but if i want to share what i've written, i would put it in my blog or send it to a writing site. :)

I've never really thought about that. I love writing and so I keep personal journals. I'm also interested in becoming a published writer and so, I suppose it is important that you think of your potential readers. How do you please them? How do you keep them interested in your piece of writing? You also have to please yourself though, this is where the enjoyment of writing comes in! I guess it's good to obtain a balance of some kind. Good luck with your own writing. Andrew
