Would a tv show really inspire us to buy something?

Especially something as expensive as a car? Personally I don't think so. If this is what car dealers are counting on I say , they aren't giving the public enough credit.
Automakers are hoping to boost interest in their cars by placing them in TV series. The idea is to grab the attention of consumers without being too obvious.General Motors placed two of its newest vehicles in NBC's "My Own Worst Enemy". Chrysler's Ram pickup to be featured in "Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles".

Maybe it does boost sell some, but I doubt it will this year because of the economy being so bad. People will now just have to say..hey nice car.. and dream about it.

Well, The X-Files did inspire me to start buying and eating sunflower seeds for a time. And, although I didn't buy them, Joan of Arcadia inspired me to get other people to buy me scarves. But, expensive things? No. And, when I'm inspired, it's by things that are just natural parts of the show or the characters. I don't think it ever occurred to anyone on the shows I mentioned to actively be trying to increase the sales of sunflower seeds or scarves. I don't become inspired by obvious product placements.
