I guess you can just call me an old southern gal.
It is a beautiful fall day, and the sun is shining bright there is a nice breeze blowing. I get up from my computer and look out the front door. It is so nice out that I open the front door and leave it open. Open the back door, open curtains and blinds on the windows, open a few windows. And enjoy the brand new fall day and the goodness of mother nature.
Do you open your house and let the sun and the nice cool breeze in?
Or do you like to keep your house closed and dark all the time?

I like mine opened for a couple reasons.
The first reason is to air the house out as I am a smoker.
The other main reason is to get rid of the old people smell of my dad. Sounds rude to a point but it gets bad smelling sometimes.
But I can't keep them open too long as dad gets cold really easy. So I keep them open to a minimum most times until it gets under 40 degrees.

I use a potpourri burner and various natural oils for an air freshener.

I do the same thing every chance I get. I feel like a bird free to fly with my windows opened and the breeze blowing in. For the life of me, I don't understand how some people can stand a closed up dark house. I'd go insane if I had to live like that. The fresh air really does the body and spirit good.

I do that to allow fresh air to enter the house. It helps us to keep our house free from mould. It helps also agains the influenza virus.

Hi Chevee,
I am from India,
For me i my room is always open.I keep my windows always open.We dont have much cool or hot.So we dont need to keep home closed always.
And we are lucky to see bright sun all the days. Now raining here. But still most of the windows are open. Thanks for sharing and have a nice day

I love opening the windows and letting the fresh air into the house! We do that whenever and as often as we can. The duplex we live in now does not have a screen door on it, so I can't leave the door open (or the neighborhood "varmints" would come in and my own wouldn't like that)!!

I like having the windows open. The fresh air feels so much better than air conditioning. However, I live right beside the interstate and the noise is horrible.

Hi Chevee--that was going to be my daughters name by the way. I would love to open up the house all the time. My dad hates it though. He thinks that the air has to be cranked on freezing and the heat as low as possible. It has to be cold in here all the time. He likes the light so I can open the blinds but he doesn't like the windows open. Doesn't make sense. He is outside most of the time, so fresh air in the house would make sense. Oh well, it's his house.
Now, in my own, I like the doors and windows open all the time. If it gets chilly, I either put on a sweatshirt or just get moving on cleaning something to work up body heat. I like fresh air. IT gets the germs out and the old smells of a house that's been locked up. Have a good day!

Hi Chevee,
Oh I could just picture you sitting there Mylotting with a little breeze blowing outside and fresh air flowing in, the leaves falling swiftly on the ground with shades of red yellow and brown, you stop and looks out the open door and watch mother nature at her work, you give out a litlle sigh and gets back to Mylotting deep in your thouthts. Hey! I'll make a good writer, no? Love and Hugs.

Hi chevee! Yes I love to open up the windows and let
the sun shine in and have the nice fresh fall air come
into the apartment! It is such a nice feeling and it
makes the house feel all nice and fresh! I love to be
outdoors! It will be getting really cold soon enough where
I live in New York and I absolutely hate how cold it
will get and then I will hate to go out of the house. In
fact it gets so cold in my apartment it feels like I am
outside even when I am inside and I am dreading the winter.
So I try to enjoy the time that I have before the weather
gets cold and windy and miserable and pretty soon it
will be getting dark really early and that makes things
feel different too! So I will keep the windows and the
blinds open for as long as I possibly can before that
dreaded winter gets here!

Yes we keep ours open on days like you described too, it's like giving the house a nice breath of fresh air, not to mention ourselves :)

You potentially have a creative writer within yourself! That sounds so romantic! I too would love to do that, if only the weather here in London would change for the better! I have experienced days like that in the past though and yes, I would have all the windows open and there would be a lovely summer's breeze flowing through my flat! Here is something that I also like though and it's at the opposite end of the spectrum! I sometimes like those cold winter days where the wind is sometimes ferocious and is really howling outside! Well, I open the window next to my chair ever so slightly, and the wind practically whistles at me! I love that! I love the sound of the wind on those occasions. I think that it would be quite depressing though to have your home closed up through the summer months although I'm sure that there is a minority out there that continue to do this! Summer has gone now so I guess those cold winter days will soon be returning! Andrew

oooo I love to open the windows and let the fans go. The fresh air is such a wonderful way to get your home so much more inviting! It is so relaxing. My cats love it also . I am a born country girl moved city, and I miss the country smells sometimes , but its the best when one of my neighbors cuts the meager lawns outside. One of my favorite smells is fresh cut grass. So I definitely agree with you , open a window and let the sunshine in . :D

It is too cold to have everything opened up today. Below fifty. Otherwise, we always have windows open, doors in back open. I do not want everyone walking by on the front walk string in.

Hi Chevee,
I always do that during weekend since hubby is around..I am not comfortable opening all the windows and doors when I am alone....LOL!
I love the idea and it helps us have some fresh air in the house and in the neighborhood, only few people are doing that! LOL!

At the moment, it is 69 degrees outside, even though it is almost noon. My doors and windows are all closed tight and the heater in the living room is turned on. My fingers feel like ice cubes as I sit here typing, so, nope, no openess in this house today

I like to open doors and windows when I can. Being in Florida, it's hard to do sometimes because it get hot and the air conditioner kicks on. But when I can, like in the early morning before it's hot, I like to open the sliding glass door and let the nice breeze come in. I leave the blinds open too because I don't like a dark house.
