I am trying to decide where I am going to travel to in 2009. I will take my sixteen month old son with me. I am not sure where I would like to go. Since he was born I took my son to Portugal in 2007 and to Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia this year. The airfare is minimal until he will be 2 years old in May 2009.
Would you choose:
1. Canada
2. South Africa
3. Somewhere in South America
Why?

Hi there
I think I would choose Canada.
You mentioned in an earlier discussion that your son had spina bifida - does he need any kind of medical care, or is it all stuff that you can do yourself? On that side of things, I think Canada would definitely be my choice as it would be more medically advanced - if needed, and far more civilized and 1st world.
South Africa is my home country and at this stage not really a great place to take a young child from a safety point of view, and South America also, depending on where you are headed, could be a bit difficult with a young child.
No matter what you decide, I am sure you will enjoy it with your son and that you will both be fine.
All the best in your decision.

Hi Violet Dreams. My son needs to have catheter care every nappy change. These wouldn't be easy to get hold of if they got lost from my luggage. I have to take all his soya drink powder as well. I think that Vancouver would be a lovely place to visit and the Rocky Mountains. Cape Town is on my travel wish as well. I imagine it is far safer there than in Johannesburg. Maximax

Hello, Maximax8!
You seem to be a great mother, taking your son to travel with you even though he is under two years old! He sure will enjoy all the time he spends with you. But don't you think he might be way too young to understand that he is going through spectacular moments? I mean, any children would be glad to travel abroad, and not only children, but adults aswell. However, your son is too young to understand what is going on, isn't he?
Anyway, you can choose South America. It's where I live, and there are places in Brazil where you'd be amazed to meet. Try visiting Fernando de Noronha, you won't regret it, for sure.
Respectfully,
Munhozmib.

I think I would go to Canada also where you would have the best medical care should anything unfortunate ensue. Babies and toddlers can sometimes get sick without warning and you should go somewhere where there is no language barrier.
