Do you know all the words to "Staying Alive"???

The BeeGees "Staying Alive" Saves Lives - The BeeGees song "Staying Alive" has 103 beats per minute, which is PERFECT for administering CPR

Are you old enough to remember The BeeGees??? Do you know ALL the words to the song Staying Alive??? According to The Nightly News, that song has 103 beats per minute which is PERFECT for doing CPR. So, do you think that if you were in a situation to perform CPR, you would be singing Staying Alive in your mind & keeping beat to the music with your hands??? Do you think it is coincidence that the name of the song relates to it's BEST usage???

I know every single word to that song!! i never knew that before! it's actually really helpful to me to know that, i'm a second year student nurse and every year we have to CPR training updates, i always pass but they alwasy give the same comment, needs to make chest compressions faster - 100 per minute- now i'll never get that comment again because in my head i'll be singing staying alive!! am not sure the beegees knew this when they wrote the song but it is a coincidence!!! xxx

Nurse hard at work - Our nurses are an essential part of our medical care!!!
GREAT to know I could share what seemed to be useless information with someone who can put it to good use. I pray you receive an "A" in your CPR training update!!! Oops am I showing my age??? Do they still give "A's" or have they changed the ratings again??? I find the name thing to be an interesting coincidence!!! Good luck in your studies!!! HUG a NURSE TODAY!!!

Yes, I am that old. I was in Junior High School when that movie came out and I remember singing "How Deep Is Your Love?" in choir. I know the words to all of the Bee Gees songs, including "Staying Alive". I never knew that tidbit about it having 103 beats per minute and that was the rate for CPR. I wonder if that was on purpose or a coincidence? Have a nice day and happy myLotting!!!

Itunes says it is 108 beats per minute but faster is better for CPR; other songs to consider are Cecilia by Simon and Garfunkel - I think that was before the BeeGees and Let it Ride by BTO. These are both pretty good cardio songs and I would say that are pretty good to walk to. I would not be doing Staying Alive in my head. After a few minutes doing CPR, it is really not possible to think about a song.

Bachman Turner Overdrive "Let It Ride" - It seems that BTO's "Let It Ride" is another good song to perform CPR.
As you can tell, I've never given CPR. I just found this information interesting. If I was going to hear anything in my head, BTO's Let it Ride would be my choice!!! I was in elementary school. Kindergaten I believe. Yikes! I am old enough to remember. That is a neat statistic. I can't say I know all the words. Wonder if I could still make that work.

Yes i remember the Bee-Gees; very well and yes i know CPR ,if i was having to do CPR, i don't think i would be thinking about a song,it be more along the lines of saving a life. Are you a nurse? You seem to know a lot about the number of beats you need for doing CPR,i am a Doctor so i know all about CPR,and yes i do surgery to music in case you were wondering, but not to the Bee-Gees,different song for different brains.

NO, I', not a nurse. I was just watching the news tonight & that was one of the spots. It seemed like useless information, but I thought maybe somebody could use it!!! I don't think I'd be singing the BeeGees while doing CPR either. However, I've never performed CPR. Who know, if I had to now, I might be doing it to the BeeGees. The beat was the important part not so much the words. However, in order to keep the compressions going regularly, you might need the words to keep the right beat!!! I just found it a little bit interesting that the best song for this was named Staying Alive. I believe in fate & my instincts said to pass this information on just in case somebody could use it!!!

Oh, believe me, I did NOT take it as a put down!!! I was just answering your question. To show you how strange my mind is, I was watching a local show & the main character had a medical emergency & his heart stopped. They were giving him CPR & When she started, I began singing Staying Alive in my head. OMG, she was doing it ALL wrong!!! She couldn't understand why it wasn't helping & I'm thinking...sing girl, sing!!!

Wow, I never knew that! Of course now you have me singing that song...its going to be stuck in my head all night now. :) I think the song had something to do with an abusive childhood, and finally breaking free. But that is a really good use for the song. Maybe next time I perform CPR I'll remember that and sing the Bee Gees while doing so.

Unless you have a voice like mine, I would think singing it out loud might relax the patient too or atleast give them something else to think about!!!

Yes it is a coincidence that the name of the song relates to doing CPR, I can see someone singing the song in their mind if they were watching CPR being done on TV but not in the real world. Once your actually doing CPR the "BEEGEES" will be the furthest thing on your mind. I will think of the song though the next time I catch CPR on some show. Now that song is stuck in my head. LOL

Now that it stuck in your head...who knows maybe your brain will rely on it to know the rhythm to use while performing CPR. Although I hope that you're NEVER are in a situation where you need to perform CPR!!!

I would be in such a panic that the song would never enter my mind. That is very ironic though that the song "Staying Alive" has the beats per minute that it takes for CPR.

Yes, I agree. I think I'd be too panicked also. But you never know. When trying to get the rhythm going right, it might be possible your brain automatically remembers this tidbit & start thinking it automatically & thereby save someone's life!!!

Interesting. I don't think that it was intentional that the song has 103 beats per minute and tha it is perfect for doing CPR. I do think that it's natural. Our bodies react to our moods. If you're depressed, your body slows down. If you're anxious it speeds up. The mood of the song probably subconsciously affected the tempo.

Interesting concept there!!! I found it amusing that the name of the song & the number of beats per minutes are compatible. I truly doubt the BeeGees sat down & figured this out!!! Coincidences are a strange & amusing thing!!!

I know the chorus but the rest of the song, I just try to murmur the words I think are the lyrics. This is actually a good tidbit to know as I will be going to a first aid/CPR class tomorrow. Maybe I can raise my hand and let everyone know this. Ahahah.

You weren't supposed to play it for them. It's a sing-a-long in your head as you're doing the CPR. If you do it right, they'll hug your neck for singing Staying Alive as they'll be happy they didn't die!!!

Ive heard that music since my mom loves beegees. And yes it is an upbeat song but i didnt know that the song beats 103 per mins. But it will be kinda awkward to do CPR and singing that song while doing it lol. I am a medical practioneer and i cant imagine myself doing that while in a serious situation. But i guess the song was not intended to help people who are performing CPR, it is a coicindence.

Under most circumstances, it's best to keep the beat of the Bee Gees song “Stayin' Alive” out of your head, but heart specialists have come up with one good reason to remember: It could save someone's life. Turns out the 1977 disco hit has 103 beats per minute, a perfect number to maintain — and retain — the best rhythm for performing cardiopulmonary resuscitation, or CPR. A small study by University of Illinois College of Medicine researchers in Peoria has found that 10 doctors and five medical students who listened to the "Saturday Night Fever" tune while practicing CPR not only performed perfectly, they remembered the technique five weeks later.
