Can I use silver polish on turquoise?

I have a really pretty necklace that I never wear because it's gotten tarnished. I have some of the jewelry counter silver cleaner, but I'm afraid to use it in case it hurts the stone... does anybody know if its safe to use silver cleaner on turquoise? The cleanser is one of those tub-sponge things, so I would have to submerge the necklace.
Any advice would be appreciated, thanks in advance!

I would definitely recommend against it. Speak to a jeweler for advice. I had a silver cross with onyx inlaid in it and using silver cleaner damaged the onyx. Most silver cleaners specifically say to keep away from precious and semi-precious stones. Mine said that of course, but I was a teenager and foolishly chose to ignore those instructions.

Thanks for the advice, I tried the toothpaste and that worked. I'm glad I didn't try the silver polish, my gut said the stone was too soft to stand up to it, but sometimes I just get lazy and ignore my instincts!

I am not sure, but another good tarnish remover is toothpaste. That shouldn't hurt the turquoise at all.
