"Sacramento County Republican leaders Tuesday took down offensive material on their official party Web site that sought to link Sen. Barack Obama to Osama bin Laden and encouraged people to "Waterboard Barack Obama"" -- http://www.sacbee.com/812/story/1314854.html Such class acts these Republicans are, eh?

I think the time has come for the Republicans to accept that they are going into opposition. They lost Congress two years ago after having been in power, at least in the House of Representatives, for 12 years. There were reasons for that. They are about to lose the Presidency and will therefore find themselves out of power in all branches of government, the first time this has happened to them since 1992. Again, there are numerous reasons for that. I think the Republicans need to go into opposition so that they can fundamentally re-think their values and policies so that they are able, one day, to come back to power. They need to acknowledge the mistakes that they have made and do some serious soul-searching to determine what they are about. Do they want to take a more Libetarian approach? Do they want to continue the neo-con view of foreign policy or return to a more 'realpolitik' approach or even an 'isolationist' foreign policy? Do they wish to continue the culture wars or will they accept a modus videndi with other Americans who don't share their views? On fiscal policy, will they continue to espouse the free market, or will they accept the need for some regulation? Will they continue to view running up deficits as not important or will they revert to the traditional balanced budgets approach? These are all interesting policy issues that we could debate at some point on MyLot. However, now is not the time as I feel there is too much anger out there in this polarised electoral period. Perhaps once things have cooled down, I will start a debate titled 'Whither the Republican Party?'

I don't care if someone is from either political party, there is no way that someone can tell me that they can justify that. How would you like someone saying this kind of thing about your father or husband? Totally wrong. Why do people have so much fun believing that Obama is a Muslim? He's not. I'd love to move on to the actual issues for once.

I cannot understand why they keep saying this as he is clearly a Christian. They cannot move into the issues because the republicans do not have any. They have started a fear campaign because they have no policies to fight him on.

The Republicans are so desparate that they have lost their collective minds. They seem hell bent on causing harm to Barack Obama. I don't see what they are so upset about. If they would have performed over the last 8 years, they wouldn't be in the underdog position. The last 8 years of Republican rule has been full of corruption and imcompetance. Why would anyone give these people a good job review? They deserve to be fired and the American people are going to make that decision on November 4th. They fail to understand that the American people have "been there and don't that", when it comes to negative smears and threats against the Democrats. Look what the "Swift Boat" attacks gave us. Four more years of the worse President in the history of our great country. The American people won't fall for it again. Lloyd

This is the act of a desperate party. They are so terrified that they will lose the election after 8 years of incompetence that they have reverted to scare mongering and racism. It is shameful that they are so pathetic. Their only chance of winning was to come up with policies that would actually show that they could tackle the problems that they caused and that is almost impossible. If their fear campaign works and they win it will show America to be the racist country that many colored people claim it is. If Obama wins and gets assassinated it will show the same thing. They have stirred up so much hate with their terror campaign that there is a real danger that Obama will be attacked if he wins. I am surprised it has not already been tried maybe they are hoping he will lose.

These people need someone to put their "boys" in a pair of vice grip pliers. And, then slowly twist them. Now - am I a class act or what? I'm behaving just like them!! Aren't I cool?? Does it not constitute a threat if you are telling people to torture a Presidential candidate? Another HUGE example of inciting violence - and are the FBI investigating this like they did the bozo in Florida who said to kill Obama? How do these people sleep at night? Have they no consciences? No souls? They certainly have no Spirit!!

Okay I've had it. I have always been an Independent and have voted for Republicans before, I have some conservative ideas (late term abortion and generational welfare) BUT, I'm turning over to the dark side LOL I am going to become a Democrat. The Republican party has turned into some evil, intolerant, and uncaring entity that Abe Lincoln would be ASHAMED of. Shame on these evil people. Shame on them for promoting hate and encouraging awful things unto someone running for president.

Seriously. I stopped myself before going into a rant about the despicable hatred and hate-mongering that would be a necessary prerequisite for LITERALLY CALLING FOR THE TORTURE OF A PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATE. And could you IMAGINE how Lincoln would react to today's Republican party? They've created a monster.

Oh sorry about the rant I've been really upset the past two weeks about all this hate BS going around. Lincoln would turn over in his grave and tell the Republican party to kiss his A$$! This is not the party of Lincoln this is the party of Hitler.

It took a couple days of people yelling "kill him" and "terrorist" for them to finally tell people that Obama wasn't to be feared and I believe that was only after people caught wind of it and gave McCain the thumbs down. The McCain has the balls to say Obama has been hate about him. Turns out it was a statement independant of the Obama campaign that was later toned down but it was referring to the hate that McCain was spreading in his campaign stops. This is the party who wore bandaids with purple hearts on them at the RNC during the last election to mock Kerry but now McCain is the hero above all reproach funny how that works huh?
