Do you like to appear offline when you're on MSN? If so, why do you do so? Do you feel cheated when your friend says " I gtg " but is actually pretending to be offline?

hmmm I tend to appear off line sometimes when I am busy and just want to speak to one person when they come on line but recently a friend of mine who has a network of computers in his house could tell on one of his computers that I was doing this, I don'r know how he could but he said that one of his computers was showing I was off line the other was showing i was on...

This is one of the few topics that I really would like to talk about. I mean, I don't see the sense of going online then posting that you're out or going invisible. I mean, why did you go online if you can't really talk? Why go online to these messengers if you don't want to be disturbed right? I have quite a few theories about this though: 1. Maybe he/she just likes to see his/her messenger online - to maybe just see who's online and who's not. Maybe they are just waiting for that someone to pop up! That's why they're not entertaining other people. 2. Maybe it's on automatic mode - Maybe they can't help but be online. Maybe it's on automatic mode and they left it with the status 'busy' or 'out' and didn't realize that they were online the next day. 3. Maybe they're listening to songs using the messenger - There are indeed features in the messengers (like Yahoo!) where they could listen to songs while not displaying the song title and artist name while they're doing so, maybe that's it. You can't actually listen to them when you're offline you know. 4. Maybe they just want the attention - Maybe they like being told 'Hi' and wouldn't bother saying hi in return. Maybe they like the attention that people give them when others see them online, but they're not interested to give the honors of replying. Yes, there are those people, I have them too on my list. They post pretty poses of themselves for others to see but they don't mean to talk to anyone. There are even those who appear online and offline like Christmas lights to somehow gain attention and letting others get curious on what's going on with them. These are all maybes though. I'm not saying that I know for sure. I guess the only person who could answer your question is the person himself. Because I don't do that. Whenever I'm online, it's because I am indeed online and I do welcome people who would like to talk to me as much as I would like to talk to them too. And when I do say 'I got to go' it really means I am leaving. =)

I really like this response! :) This is why I don't really use messengers much anymore. There are other ways to keep in touch! Good answer! :)

I'm get pretty tickd off when they say g2g but they are actually 'appearing offline' makes me seem less of a friend. lol. So thats why i don't do such things, its either online or offline with me there is no variation of the two.

i will appear online only ,every time.i don;t like to hide. if a person knows ,they can talk to me at anytime ,when i am online . if any one pretends to be offline, i don;t bother about them and i also wont talk to them. i hate those persons who pretends or hides.

I would always appear online when I'm on MSN. Yeah, I do feel cheated when my friend told me that she's always on MSN, just that she appeared offline. There's no way I can tell when she's on and she's not on by that. The reverse is also the same. Some people appear online but never responded to my chats because they are away. That is also annoying.

hi redwarrior82 : i d like to appear offline when i m on MSN because sometimes i just want to talk with one person and don't want to be diturbed by anyone else. i feel it is a very ease way to talk with who you wanna talk . Pretending to be offline is not a kind of cheat in my oppinion, but a protection of privacy

I like to appear offline when i'm on MSN so i have the choice if i want to chat or not. My best friends now that i'm have my MSN on offline. I always log in to MSN because i have alot of problems with my internet connection, so if i lose my internet connection again i can see it directly.

I have only on status, offline. both my MSN or skype. I almost never online, bcz too many friends there, once online , i would get myself into the trap of busy.LOl so offline is the best way to keep myself in quiet. If i wanna talk or chat with my friends, i will call them, and make sure that we are not disturbed. best wishes

MSN isn't like the phone. People are probably on their computers working and just like to have msn on to talk to certain people. Its not a big deal if the ignore you appear offline. In fact, you have no idea what the person on the other end of msn is doing. Chances are they arent waiting to talk to someone on the other end, but just have it up to connect when they choose.
