I've been "Owned" so many times I am not sure if I am even MINE anymore??

So am I the ONLY one who can't stand Facebook?? Seriously! I keep getting emails telling me that I have been "Owned" by people I didn't even realize I knew! I have been bought, sold, traded, poked and God knows what else yet I didn't do anything to anyone so why are they harrassing me?
I rarely visit Facebook and I don't interact with it at all. I keep my profile there because I like to keep tabs on their progress and that's about it. I truly understand why "Facebook Suicide" is now a term I can tell you! So who else is annoyed with this site? Or are you one of the diehard Facebookers?

Hehe i do go on facebook all the time, but as a way of keeping in touch with people that i don't live so close to anymore! for me it's like a public diary where i can post photos of what i've been up to etc and my friends do the same so we know what's going on with eachother! I don't add the applications that let people buy, sell or own me, or anything like that because the notifications just drive me mad!! I don't have enough time to waste to spend poking people etc! You can turn off the email notifications so it won't email you all the time, i think it's in the account settings somewhere, i have done that with mine too so it's not too bad!! i don't think myspace would bombard you with as much junk though, have you thougt about setting a profile up there instead? xxx

Now I am not quite sure why exactly but I would have pegged you as a Facebook user for sure Munchkin! I know many people that love it for the photo sharing functions as well and in many instances it is the most common way they actually keep in touch with each other! It is hands down the notificatons that drove me crazy also. I did turn off the email forwarding but I still seem to get the odd one evry now and then. I do not have a mySpace account either and don't think I will bother to be honest. I have enough trouble keeping up with mylot! lol. Thanks for your comments.

mylot and a business portal called LinkedIN are actually the only two networking sites that I spend any time on at all. Personally I don't think you are missing much by not being on Facebook but many seem to enjoy it so who knows! Thanks for responding subha.

I donlt think you and I really fit into ther target age group anyway. Thanks for your response and if you DO end up playing around with Facebook I would be keen to hear your won opinions on it.

You too? Well at least it doesn't seem to bother you like it does me! I know of many people actually that say they find it a great tool to find long lost friends etc but as far as I am concerned these people are generally long lost for a reason so it's not incentive enough for me! I will just keep deleting the emails I get from them and check in from time to time as per usual. Thanks for responding Raven.

I've been tempted to join, but never got around to it. The other day I was talking with my Grandson about his friend who builds expensive homes. He opened Facebook to get pictures of some of these fancy Homes. Perhaps its a good site for young people, but this old senior will continue to resist. Thanks for starting this Post, James. I get fed up with Spam, and don't need the intrusion into my Life.

I do think that Facebook is more for the young 'uns barehugs. I am currently 36 and find most of it way too gimmicky for my tastes. It is amazing what people use this site for though these days! Business promotion, professional networking, everything! But it's just not appealing to me at all as it stands. Thnaks for your response and yes, better to leave Facebook alone to avoid the intrusions.

LOL just yesterday my boy friend called me saying 'you know we still have facebook accounts?' I was like I totally forgot about that, we signed up ages ago and never used it since. So I asked him if we could delete it and he said 'yes if you know how to sign in' True I have no idea what the password was lol I know I can get is somehow, but I doubt I'll bother with this.
I dont use sites like that, I am not much of a chatter at least dont do it over the internet, thats why I like mylot, you can express your oppinion without having to chat too much LOL
I sound like I dont chat at all heheh

Hahaha. Forgetting how to sign in is a good thing if you ask me! If you do finally work out how I am sure that you will find a list as long as your arm with every activity thrust upon you imagineable! Youi may not even be YOU anymore mojcica! myLot is far more enjoyable for me too. Less intrusive, simplistic and far more manageable. Thanks for responding.

I have never actuall opened a MySpace profile but it sounds like it's a good thing that I didn't! lol. Being on Facebook definitely causes an intrusion into our lives and I just can't see the attraction to it all to be honest. Thanks for responding lilaclady.

I'm on Facebook and I haven't been 'owned',bought, sold, traded or poked as yet.
Though I've had a profile there for sometime now....it's only recently that I've met up with a few old school friends (we lost touch during the Gulf invasion).
So, now I better be prepared for some poking, buying and trading, eh?
James, you are getting annoyed pretty easily nowadays.....I wonder why:)

You haven't? Get ready for it then if you have just added some new friends for sure! lol. It can be a tad amusing at first I guess but in time it really does start to get frustrating. And I always seem to get annoyed more than usual towards the end of the working week too. Nothing new here! Thanks for the response.

I have a facebook account, but never visited again. The only time I got there was when I contacted my high school friends abroad. I wanted to reach them to know how they are and to get in touch with them. I felt that they were not as interested as I am to reach them, so I decided to stop visiting. I want to cancel my account there.

I signed up to facebook about a year ago, could not get the hang of it as I had no friends that I could look up on there, so I gave up with it. I forgot about it for a while and then my hubby started going on it a lot so I figured I would give it another go, I found it was OK for a few weeks and then like you, I got fed up of being owned, I got fed up of being tagged by nerds too. Now the only reason I go on it is because I have a virtual puppy on there and I cannot get rid of it and I would feel really guilty if I did not go on there and feed it!

lol. So a virtual puppy finally got you hooked gemini? I got bored of it pretty quickly myself and ended up resenting all the user generated spam more than appreciating any social aspect of it all. It's certainly popular but I just can't see the attraction really. Thanks for repsponding ot the discussion. Now go and feed the puppy!

Facebook, My Yearbook and Fanbox... Yep and it's annoying. As for Facebook, I'm only on it because of family. The other two are doing nothing for me and I will probably delete my profiles when I get around them. Despite Ringo Starr being my friend (doubt it's the real one lol)...

I have an account there but, I don't use it. My family uses all those applications, own your friends, etc, on myspace. I played along, for a while. It is family, we are goofy that way. But, I had people buying my people, trading them, etc., etc., and I kind of got bored with it. If I am going to buy somebody, it is going to be for real, some houseboy that is going to do me some good!

Same situation as me then it seems Bo. Although my Sister is the only family member I know of that has an account too but I don't interact with her through Facebook at all. I never got caught up in the applications side of things really but I know many people that love this site and all these things. Each to their own I guess. Oh, and based on all the movies etc I think it's a POOLboy you need to get and not a Houseboy! Thanks for the comments.

The applications side of things is by far the most annoying Abbey and to be honest there is nothing on Facebook that interests me at all really! I remain a member because I like to keep tabs on their progress, that's about it! Thanks for responding.

I get bought mostly by my family and close friends and they will sometimes gift me to their own friends. My brother doesn't like guys that he doesn't know to buy me. He'll buy me back and then say "Back off my sister!" haha

Hi checapricorn. Given that you have a lot of friends that are already Facebook members I am surpised then that you have managed to steer clear for so long! I know Friendster but have never set up an account there. If I did, I think I would move about as privately as possible too. You attract too much inbound attention otherwise! Thanks for your response.

I have a facebook account when i first joined it was okay but i soon got fed up of all the different applications people keep sending me. I just can't be bothered with all that.
The only reason i go on there now is so i can keep up to date with what my friends are doing.
I am also addicted to the game scramble on there i find it a great way to wind down. And me and my partner will play it together.

I have heard about this Scramble game actually and it sounds like a lot of fun! It's great that you and your partner play it together also. I have an account there too but I visit it every few weeks or so only. The applications aspect of Facebook starting annoying me within the first week I joined so I gave up on it pretty quickly. Thanks for responding littleone.

Maybe you will not believe but I still resist to join facebook although almost all friends I know already joined. I probably have not joined because all that people who told me to join. So I can not answer your question properly since I do not know these terms from facebook. But wanted to tell you, do not let other people to own you:)

Oh I can believe it dieorfly and wish I had resisted it myself! I can tell you that you certainly aren't missing anything. As for not letting people own me I could not agree more; but they seem to be trading me back and forth and I am not even aware of it! lol. Thanks for responding and I love the avatar too! LMAO! Those things all annoy me, too! And, just today, somebody "tagged" me in a picture, but, um, it was NOT a picture of me! HUH? Of course, I would have been even madder if somebody that I have never met in real life HAD somehow gotten a REAL picture of me! I mean, that was just WEIRD! *baffles* :(

Oh! So you were pseudo-tagged then! lol. Is that even a term? Hmmm. This may actually be a good thing in the long run EAStanley. If you ever upset someone over the phone or something and they have never met you, you can tell them your photo's on Facebook if they want to come and fight it out face to face! Haha. They will NEVER find you! Thanks for responding.
