Beautiful weather in sunny Virginia today.

I hit the road yesterday morning for a two week vacation and change of scenery. I had great driving weather and what was even better was my gas mileage. I normally take my roadtrips in a '07 Mustang GT and get about 29 mpg. However, this time I took my '91 Blazer S10, and since it's older and more miles on it to began with, I figured I would get about 14 mpg, I ended up getting 23 mpg! And the gas prices were not bad either, I paid 2.99 at home (PA) before I got on the road and when I filled up again I paid 2.89, I even saw it as low as 2.76 after I got to Virginia. So I'm glad I planned my trip and carried through with it, even though when I was planning it I figured I would be paying $4 a gallon or more! lol Is anyone else planning any Fall trips now that gas has gone down?

This is a little late, but I was perusing the discussions and saw the word "Virginia"... it's kinda slapped me in the face! LOL
After reading the title, I HAD to respond. I live in northern Virginia and, believe me, today it's COLD!!! Okay, it's gotten all the way up to 55 degrees now, but was down to 36 degrees last night and supposed to go down to 28 degrees tonight! Aaaarrrgh!!!
Yes, four days ago it WAS beautiful. I couldn't believe how nice and warm the weather was. But, as I expected, it was most likely a case of 'Indian Summer' where it warms up significantly for a week or so before plunging down colder than ever.
Anyway, on to your question. No, no fall trips for me, unless you count my going down to southern Virginia to a house I own that I am getting ready to TRY to sell. I have a few minor touches to put on the house and make sure everything is in order so I have planned to go down this week, but not because gas prices have gone down. It's just something I need to do and I'm very, VERY happy to see that gas prices have come down as far as they have!

I'll be passing through northwest part of Virginia in a little over a week, on my way back home. Where the low for Monday morning is supposed to be around 27! That's after I go down to Va Beach this coming weekend.

Yeah, it's cold! Virginia is a beautiful State (okay, okay, Commonwealth) to visit, especially this time of year with the trees turning breathtaking Fall colors, but dang! It's cold outside!
I'm in Winchester, up in that little pokey-up part of northern Virginia (considered, I believe, northwestern VA). Winchester is a lovely, quaint old town that has grown to a rather large size with all the possible modern ammenities you could imagine. We even have a mall... and a Sonic, two Sonic's actually! LOL
If you plan to stay around here, the Washington Hotel is THE place to stay in Old Town Winchester. It's lovely, with doormen, bellhops, the works!
I'm out in the country, though, where it's even colder than in town. Brrrrrr! You pay for what you get, no matter where it is, huh?
Enjoy your trip!

Awwwww wish you could join us. And I did save about $50 dollars on what I had originally figured for gas, and yep, more scrappin supplies lol I also have flying plans for Christmas, I'm hoping the drop in fuel will reflect in a drop in flight prices. That would be nice.

Hi palonghorn,
wow..that's cool! Hubby and I talked about this last night since the gas price is getting very affordable this time and perfect for strolling but it's been raining here for almost the entire week, I do know, hopefully we can make it with perfect weather this weekend!

I would love to take a vacation this fall. I especially would love to go to Virginia or Florida! Somewhere nice and warm with no rain.
That is great that you got such great gas mileage.

I was really surprised at the gas mileage I got. It has been really warm here today, wasn't ready for that lol It has been nice and cool back home in PA, but it's supposed to be cooler here tomorrow and this weekend.

Tell Heather I said Hi. Wow, two week vacation?? That is unreal for you to be gone that long at one time. Our gasoline here is down to 2.58 a gallon. We do have a couple of trips planned for the end of this month and then again for Thanksgiving but these were both planned last year before the prices got out of hand. It is nice though to see them down again and I think they will go even lower. Have a nice vacation and have fun scrapping. (I assume that you and Heather are going to be scrapping). hahaha

It is out of the ordinary for me to get away for more than a few days or a week at most. But being off work all these months, I was about to go stir crazy lol. Oh yes, we'll be scrapping lol we are going to another scrapbook retreat at Va Beach on the 24th for my last weekend here.

The weather here is great too , nice sunny and cool. I am not planning any traveling in the near future, I agree it is a great time for doing this, especially since the gas has come down a lot. I wonder how long it will be before it goes back up. Not trying to jinx it.
Happy you enjoyed your vacation and returned home safe and sound.

I figure we can enjoy this decrease in gas prices til after the elections are over.....then we'll just have to hope for more of the same, however, I don't think the prices will stay down. I do hope they do, right on through Christmas
