First of all congratulations for getting your first payment. You do not need to verify your alertpay account. I guess you can try buying referrals using your alertpay account. I did not verify my alertpay account since the process is not simple. But once I paid using my alertpay account and it worked. So I will suggest you that try without verifying first.
