If I had been running the McCain campaign . . .

I know I'm kind of armchair quarterbacking and don't really pretend to know anything about running a campaign, but if I had been in charge I would have firmly put Palin and McCain on a reform message instead of these useless attacks about Obama's associates. America still has the greatests system of government on the face of the Earth and it doesn't need to be 'changed' into something else, just some needed reform. McCain and Palin could have convinced me they were the ones to do it, but instead all I've heard is small little ideas like paying off everyone's bad mortgage and, oh yeah, Obama's suspicious. McCain needed to make his case of capitalism vs socialism (which is what Obama's all about, don't be fooled).
I liked Palin when she first came on the scene before they turned her into the party witch. I know that is often the role of the VP - say all the nasty things too undignified for the top of the ticket to say, but isn't that a play out of the old play book? They should have let her play to her strengths as a reformer, not go on the attack. That's just not very pretty.
If you were campaign manager, what would you have changed?

I would not have allowed McCain to choose Palin in the first place for one thing. There were too many other, more qualified and acceptable people to choose from. As far as the message of reform goes, it might have worked if McCain had actually concentrated on that, as you said, and given the voters some specifics as to what he would reform and how. I still don't have any idea what reforms he's talking about...but Obama has been clear on what he wants to do.

Yes, exactly my point. McCain's message has been weak and scattered. A few small ideas here and there. But make no mistake, Obama's not talking about reform, he's talking about change. Socialism - speading the wealth around. Hasn't worked anywhere else, won't work here. Everybody will just stop working.
I wonder what would have happened if McCain had chosen Romney. He has a reputation for being a brilliant businessman. Could he have given better ideas and sense of security for our economic future? Or would the media just have gone after his religion?

First off I wouldn't have chosen a Vp who was already on the environmentalists hit list , who had already sold out to the big oil companies & was being investigated for abuse of power. Granted she has a good approval rating in her state but what do you expect when they hand out money given to them by the big oil companies. The same companies that turn around & use the oil they're getting from alaska to rape the rest of the U.S.
Soon as McCain chose her he showed where his true allegences were. You can bet the oil companies had something to do with his decission.
