Bush's Justice Department attempting the same "blame ACORN" scam as in 2006

I have a feeling that if I start quoting, I'm going to end up having to quote most of this Washington Monthly article, because it's already pretty well summarized, so I'll just quote something they quoted, which is an excerpt of a Wall Street Journal conservative editorial: "[A]llegations of fraud have tainted Acorn voter drives across the country.... The good news for anyone who cares about voter integrity is that the Justice Department finally seems poised to connect these dots instead of dismissing such revelations as the work of a few yahoos." -- http://opinionjournal.com/editorial/feature.html?id=110009189 Now, read that and think it over before taking a look at the source URL. Sounds familiar, doesn't it? Sounds like the Justice Department is on the verge of exposing ACORN as being part of a grand voter fraud scheme, right? Now go look at that URL. Look at the date of this article especially: November 3rd, 2006. Let that sink in. You may or may not have seen me talking about how ACORN's been accused of the same thing over and over, and this year is just the latest version, but that no evidence of ACORN being involved in actual attempts to illegally influence elections ever actually materalizes. Well, now you know. In case it isn't obvious to you by now--they didn't find ANYTHING in 2006 implicating ACORN in an effort to illegally manipulate elections. That was then. This is now: "The FBI is investigating whether the community activist group ACORN helped foster voter registration fraud around the nation before the presidential election. A senior law enforcement official confirmed the investigation to The Associated Press. A second senior law enforcement official says the FBI was looking at results of inquiries in several states, including a raid on ACORN's office in Las Vegas, for any evidence of a coordinated national effort." -- http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20081016/ap_on_el_pr/voter_fraud_fbi;_ylt=AvRuWMUxuZ8iERmgg9E5B9.s0NUE Now, does THAT sound familiar? Guess what? The same corrupt Justice Department run by the same corrupt President is making the same accusations that are going to have the same result. It's a SCAM, people. You are being duped. These trumped up allegations are repeated practically EVERY election cycle, and nothing EVER materializes. You are being played for fools. See the full Washington Monthly article, as well as a few other items about ACORN for the full story of what's REALLY going on here: http://www.washingtonmonthly.com/archives/individual/2008_10/015223.php http://d-day.blogspot.com/2008/10/vote-suppression-now-aided-directly-by.html http://clarusvisum.blogspot.com/2008/10/so-what-this-acorn-thing-all-about.html http://talkingpointsmemo.com/archives/223436.php http://tpmmuckraker.talkingpointsmemo.com/2008/10/a_dose_of_reality_on_the_acorn.php http://www.metrokc.gov/proatty/news/2007/Voter%20Registration%20Statement.htm

If you believe strongly in your candidate, why would you be opposed to efforts to stop voter fraud? Wouldn't you want the will of the American people to be accurately represented in a vote? In addition, if ACORN truly had no issues with voter fraud, then why is Senator Obama currently running from them as fast as he can? If no crimes had been committed by ACORN, why would Obama be spending his time to distance himself from the organization, rather than defend them? Lastly, the "corrupt" Justice Department and "corrupt" President are not the only ones investigating ACORN. Take a look at the state of Nevada, where their Secretary of State Ross Miller (a lifelong democrat) has authorized raids on ACORN and statewide investigations of their activities. Next, have a look at Bill Mason in Cuyahoga County, Ohio. Here we have another democrat who is actively investigating ACORN for severe voter fraud allegations. My point is this: not everything is a conspiracy against Obama and democrats. There are 14 states currently conducting their own investigations of ACORN separate from the federal government, and they are pretty well divided between Rs and Ds. I think if voter fraud is uncovered, investigated, and punished, everyone wins. Republicans and democrats. The American electorate in general. Fraud is bad. Investigating it is good. Punishing it is better. I think that any thinking voter should agree with those simple statements.

If you had read all of what I wrote, in addition to the sources that tell the real story of what's going on, you would know that there is NO voter fraud being committed at all. Learn the difference between voter fraud and registration fraud (which is no threat to the 'purity' of elections), then get back to me. It's easy--I've already laid out all the information in my original post. All you have to do is honestly read it. Let me know if you do.

Clarus, I did read what you wrote honestly and thoroughly. I see no way that anyone can prove that ACORN is not committing voter fraud without an investigation. If they have done nothing wrong, then the investigations that are being conducted nationwide will exonerate them, and then we will all know for sure. If you are conceding that ACORN committed "only" registration fraud and not actual voter fraud, then I believe that is a poor argument. Registration fraud is, in itself, a crime in all of the states where ACORN is being investigated. No, registration fraud does not impact the purity of the actual election. But it is a violation of the law. Is it a victimless crime? Maybe, but why do we have registration laws on the books if they should not be enforced? If you believe that voter registration laws are fruitless and not important (and I wouldn't necessarily disagree with you), then I'd say you should write your congressmen and voice that opinion. Unless registration laws are repealed, however, they are still enforceable rules. We cannot and should not selectively enforce and investigate crimes. If there is probable cause and suspicion, then it should be acted on and investigated. All this being said, I am not condemning ACORN. Maybe they did nothing wrong. If they are investigated and not found guilty of anything, then more power to them! If they did something wrong, then I believe they need to be fairly punished and prevented from doing it in the future. My stance is merely that if improprieties and legal violations are taking place, and ACORN is suspected, then why would we not investigate them?

Unbelievable...well, I take that back, I'll believe anything about this Administration and their party who in their desperation will stop at nothing to keep their power and keep from losing even more of it, not only in the Presidential election but also the Congressional and Senate races. This whole ACORN scandal and the way they're trying to pin something on Democrats in general and the Obama campaign in particular is a bit overblown. I've heard conservatives on TV and radio talk about it and I've even read some posts here where they've mentioned the guy who registered to vote 73 times. OK, that's nuts, but does anyone think for one nano-second that he could actually VOTE 73 times? I think Obama was right when he said ACORN is a bit of a victim themselves because some of their employees tried to get paid money they didn't really earn by turning in these phony registrations.
