My 8 year old daugther is joining Violin lessons this year in school. It is a great program. We only had to pay for the rental of the violin and the lessons are free. Have any of your children been in music lessons...how did they do and did they enjoy them. I'm hoping it will teach her some self disipline and some organization as well as the musical side of it. She is very excited and wants to break out the instrument now and she doesn't even know how to play it...she will have to play 15 minutes 5 times a week. plus she has to get up extra early one day a week to be there for morning practice. I hope her excitement holds up the who year and she enjoys it. Any insight would be great

My son studied voice for several years. He was in a local band for five or six years. He is a music fanatic! He is self taught in guitar, drums, and keyboard/piano. Music is very good and very much a part of learning cultures. Encourage her to continue even if she changes instruments. It kept my son out of trouble and involved in something very positive.

she loves music as well and she loved it when her sister was in violin and clarinet... she has always wanted to be involved in something like this and I'm glad I fianlly have the chance to put her into something. I like the part about keeping her out of troble...I loved the look on her face the first time we went to see her sister play in a big concert, she said i can't wait until I can do that too....I hope she still likes it after a few months.

All you can do is support and encourage. Pay attention to her body language, it speaks volumes I've learned. Nothing can come between my son and his music. When he is writing a song don't bother talking, he doesn't even know you are there!

In the last year that my son was in, they introduced violin lessons for the whole year, part of some new scheme the school was trying to encourage musical interests. Each child was measured up for a violin and that was free, and the lessons were free too and it was all done for the school year. My son started off loving it, but after a few months he hated it that much that the thought of it used to make him ill! He was extremely glad to finish with it, I hope that your daughter enjoys it, I would have loved it if my son had taken to it.

That is very nice... i love the sound the violin makes... and i had some students in the past who played really well... my daughter is only two years old... but if an opportunity like the one you have arises... i wouldn't have second thoughts of enrolling her... and i would definitely save to buy her, her very own violin... But i just hope that she enjoys the classes... studying violin can be a gruelling task...

I hope she is up to it. Her older sister went through the same program but gave it up because of the teacher, not the instrument, so I'm hoping she can encourage her as well. Her instructor seems nice and I'm not scared to go up and talk to the instructor if there are problems. They tell you not to buy until they are for sure ready and have reached the highest level because they keep growing and you keep buying. I hope your daughter enjoys it whenever you decide to enroll her.

i like violin. i think it can play beautiful music. my friend's daughter is learning violin now, and she really put all her heart into in, i think she make her most free time to practice, she like playing that very much, and really really do a hard work on it, 8 year old is not too young, my friend's daughter started it at 4, i think the interest is the best teacher.

It's great that she wants to play. My daughter loved her lessons, but hated the half hour practice every day, so she gave up. Hope yours keeps it up.
