This may seem simplistic...

but the United States government is in need of money. I wonder if -in addition to things that the candidates have talked about in order to get our national finances back where they should be- maybe our nation shouldn't have a garage sale of sorts. I mean think about the sheer volume of stuff we have stored in warehouses all over the nation. It seems to me that maybe to raise some funds we could clear out some of those warehouses? Any thoughts?

Sell our outdated fighter jets on eBay? What a great idea! No, really - there are actually a couple of government departments that auction off old equipment and/or confiscated goods online now, though not on eBay. If you check some of the automobile auction sites, you'll often find parks department jeeps and government fleet cars put up for auction by the GAO, as well as office equipment and furniture being auctioned by the GAO. I know with the fleet cars, the proceeds are tallied against the original cost of the cars on the GAO's ledgers. We need more people who run the government the way you'd run a business - recoup losses instead of writing them off.

I absolutely agree. I knew that they already auction some things off, but it seems to me that if there was a massive push they could really make some cash.

I once saw something on television that showed a military warehouse that had everything from baby diapers to shoes. Most of it had been untouched in years.
