Why R.L.Stine's Goosebumps so pupular?

Probably because R.L. Stine writes in a suspense manner. His stories are simple yet complex. The storyline is obvious and the plot may seem to lead you to a conclusion. But when you think you got it there, assuming that your conclusion "might" be the one, R.L. Stine whips it off with another surprise revelation. I've read most of his books since I was a kid and now that I am 17 years old I still find them very interesting. One particular book from the series that I truly loved was the Werewolf of Fever Swamp. Second best was The Cuckoo Clock of Doom - this really made me feel that I was in the story, that I was the character undergoing Stine's plot. At one point, I even dedicated my whole summer studying how R.L. Stine writes his fictional yet seemingly real stories. Turns out he keeps in mind the "what-ifs" plus the fear factors that could trigger our imagination. He takes a simple element and weaves it into a make-believe character. For example, the Werewolf of Fever Swamp. We all know that werewolves aren't real but he threw me a very big surprise when I got to the end of the story. It's like this: you think it's the end and all ends well, but R.L. Stine has a better ending to top it off!
