My cheek is swolen after a tooth extraction!!!

I got my first molar on the left side extracted last night. At first the dentist suggested that I return the following day (in the morning) so that in case I bleed continously, it would not be so late for me to call on for an emergency. But I insisted that I will just eat ice cream or candy an ice, LOL. Thanks a lot because it didn't bleed much. However, is it just normal that it is now swolen? I mean, it is exactly 24 hours ago now and it is swolen like I have a candy in my mouth. Do I have to go back to the dentist and have it checked or this is just okay?

Take ibuprofen (Advil) for the pain and swelling. It's a pain killer and an anti inflammatory. That's what my dentist told be to take after having my wisdom teeth out and it really helped with the swelling and stiffness. I think it's normal to experiance discomfort and swelling for a few days after but if you feel it isn't normal then go to your dentist ASAP.

I think I need to go back to my dentist by now because it is still swelling. Although it doesn't hurt, I am kind of worried about the swelling. My cousin who is a nurse suggested that I return to the dentist and have it checked. She said it has been probably infected. But by your experience, I was relieved. You said that it is just normal that it will swell for the first few days. I'll keep up posted with the swelling as soon as I see the dentist after work. Thanks. Happy posting!

If the tooth was aching when you had it pulled...chances are it will really swell. I don't know why but that was what was told to me by a dentist. Now..whether or not that is the reason...the mere fact is has swollen is enough for you to go back to your dentist and ask him for antibiotics. There might be some infections so you need not put that thing off.

I think my problem is over, because although I really plan to go and see my dentist after work today, I still sent her a text message telling her my situation. She answered back right away and said that it is just okay. I just have to gargle betadine oral antiseptic and continue my medication. Whew! What a relief! Anyway, thanks for the response!

Hello my dear sister. Your condition should be checked by your dentist for I think that it is not normal to swell your gums or cheek after tooth extraction. I suggest you check with her and I think you already did, since this discussion of your is 3 days old when I give my response. Regards to everyone...

I just texted the dentist last Friday and was told to gargle Betadine oral antiseptic, which I did. Thanks, Goodness! The swelling is gone and I am very much okay now. She said it is just normal because the tooth extracted from me is really big. Thanks for the concern, I am okay now. Regards, Bro!

hi. i suggest that you put clear ice inside your mouth where the tooth was extracted. it will help the swell subside. does your dentist gave you medicine for the wound? if not, go back to your dentist and ask for medicines.

did you take antibiotics like amoxicillin? this one helps avoiding the tooth to become swollen.

ok, maybe then you have to go back to your dentist if you are feelng uncomfortable still, so your doctor can rule out what's wrong with the extraction site.
