I think this strategy would only work for someone who has lots of money like Buffett. Just like with the real estate market right now. If you can afford to buy and deal with the loss right now for the eventual turn around and great profit margin then I say go for it.

He has that luxury because he doesn't have to have a care about his money cause he is always getting more and more without really doing anything. Imagine the interest he draws on his money alone monthly.

In my opinion, Warren Buffett has money to buy a lot of stocks when the market is in the recession. So, he can be greedy when other people are fearful.
For middle class people, we do not have a lot of money. So, if we buy stock at the wrong time, then we will be in great trouble.

It only works if you have lots of liquid assets on hand. The advice, however, seems sound for when it applies.

I think it's a smart move on his part. How can you go wrong buying stocks at half price? For example, Buffet loves AXP stock, and bought it at much higher prices than what it's at today-- so why wouldn't he want more shares, on sale?
I think it's not so much that he can do this because he's a billionaire... I think this is how he got to be a billionaire. I don't have much free cash right now, but I bought some FNM at a dollar.... and I am sure I'll double my money or more!
