Now come to think of this: I have been using ENGLISH LANGUAGE for the past 20 years, it started when i am still in elementary up until i graduated college..this is the medium of instruction in our school, in work, in my reading novels, in the music that i listen to, in the movies that i watch, in everyday life..english everywhere and every second...but how have i done so far? My ENGLISH is not that GOOD, i am not proud of it, it is still basic and simple...now i have a dream of becoming a writer and would want to see myself as an established writer...but how do i become one?when im not confident with my own english? What about you?are you proud of your english?on 1 to 10 how do you rate yourself? Do you make an effort to enhance your english skills or tend to just let it fly?

I have been familiar with the English language for 48 years and am fluent in formal as well as spoken English. My proficiency in my regional language/mother tongue is also very good though I cannot appreciate too much of complex poetry in Tamil. On the other hand , because I am convent educated and a student of English Literature ,my proficiency in English is better. But I speak and write well in both these languages. There my proficiency with languages stops. I do not know any other language. I am quite ahppy with my English and feel that I should constantly improve it and am very conscious and I feel guilty when I make elementary stupid mistakes.

I've been using English since I was 4 (I did use English before that but not too often and it was just words strung together). I started formal schooling at the age of 4. So, that makes it around 28 years of using the English language. Even when I speak my mother tongue, I THINK in English and then translate it. I wouldn't say I am proud of my English but I can speak fluently (though I sometimes find my mind works faster than I can talk) I would rate myself a 7 or an 8. I don't consciously try to enhance my English skills but I've noticed that I am influenced by people who speak good English.

Living in England all my life...well 22 years i'd like to think I was pretty good at the language. Although when I think back to the 19th century and how well english people used to speak then i'm so jealous I wasn't born during that time. Every word of the english language was pronounced well and with pin sharp accuracy and strength. Did study english literature and language at college for a couple of years although I didn't take it on to university to continue studying it. Perhaps I should have done. Just makes me sad nowadays to hear youths miss pronouncing words and using a lot more slang in todays world.

In our country (Philippines), English is the medium of instruction for practically all subjects in all schools from elementary to college; except of course for our native "Pilipino" subjects. So, relatively speaking, I have been using the English language almost my whole life since i started kindergarten. I personnaly cannot gauge or rate my English writing or speaking skills. But I am "forced" to write since my line of work involves writing speeches and press releases on selected topics. Oh, i work in a foreign embassy so I guess I have to speak English to communicate with my bosses the whole time I am at the office, five days a week. How do I improve my English skills? I read a lot, novels, magazines, newspapers, as in everything. I am an avid reader. Oh and I have a journal too, at least I practise my writing skills there with only myself as writer and reader.

Oh that's awful when someone reads your private thoughts in your journal. Journals are our private properties and should be for our own personal eyes only. I hide my journal and maybe just lucky no one has ever read it yet, I hope. lol Continue writing, its a good practice and read books on brushing up your English grammar, that helps. Happy reading and writing..:))

I am 26 years old and was born and raised in Canada, so I have been using the English language all of my life. My mother was born in 1949 but moved to Canada from Denmark in 1957 where we all still live, so she has been using the english language since she was 8 years old.

English is already a part of every Filipinos life... since everywhere we turn to... this is being used more than our own language... street signs... restaurant menus... commercials... billboards... etc... etc... all use English... or incorporate the language... I am not really outstanding when it comes to verbal and written English... but i get by... and knowing how to carry a sentence or two really helps when one works abroad... they tend to take you seriously... rather than those who understand... but are not confident in speaking it...

Well, same as yours since gradeschool i've been using english languare. I too were not that fluent yet, there are still strange words i encountered which i can't comprehend well. Everytime i encounter those i usually take a look its meaning on a dictionary. I don't have any plan to be a writer but i am confident with my english as i believe i can communicate will with others using that language. Don't feel sorry for yourself if you are not fluent yet, coz even foreigners which english is their primary language can say aren't fluent too when it comes to writing. How about you go into IELTS reviews which i think can enhance your english more.

3 things you have to do to be a good writer. 1#Read, 2#read and 3# read. Use mylot platform to experiment your writing. Write every day a lot or here. If you do this you can get instant feedback here. Good luck.

I learned that I started to speak in English when I was 15 years old... Although during my gradeschool days I used to speak the language but I am still not confident enough those years... Now, I worked in a call center to enhance my English because I get to talk to English speaking people... I think I am more confident in spoken english than in written....

I believe my English is very good. I have been using the language for the past 26 years. It is all I know. But I do try hard to use correct grammar when talking to others and I correct my children's grammar all the time. I believe that when I make an effort to use the language correctly then it sounds as if I am a bit more intelligent, whether it is really true or not.
