Here in Ohio and I'm sure most states are the same, if you hit a deer in the road, when the police get therem (cause it usually tears up your car) they ask you if you want it, if you decline, them they call the first person on the list they have that wants to come and get it. Or it is donated to one of the homeless shelters or nursing homes for meat. We don't have moose that roams here, so don't know what it taste like but I'm sure a big moose would make a lot of meat for a needy family.

I think that is a great idea. I dont really love meat enough to just eat what ever but if my family was going hungary I would never turn down such a great find. Who ever came up with that plan was a genius.
My Hubby is a hunter and though he does not hit it with the car he kills it and brings it home. Same concept but for a better cause.

That wouldnt be my cup of tea but I know they do do that in some parts of the county they do that. Some friends of mine were driving across countyr and hit a deer in Michigan and they were asked if they wanted to keep the deer. They did not. I think I might ask the deer be donated to the homeless or something.

i live in Las Vegas, so any roadkill around here would probably be the neighbor's dog or cat......or one of the millions of pigeons that had a bad day.
so, i think i'll pass.

I wouldn't do this, mostly because things that have been hit my cars are usually dirty and i wouldn't know where to start with skinning and cooking an animal, and apart from that i don't think i'd be able to eat something that i'd had to do something so gruesome too! I have heard that here in england there is a law that says if you hit a deer and kill it you are not allowed to take it home and eat it but if you find a deer that has been killed by a car, you can claim it and eat it! bit wierd, not sure if it's true or not but i've heard it a couple of times! xxx

Many years ago we hit a deer and when the highway patrol came to write up the accident they let us take the deer home. We had a good bit of meat for a while. When I saw the title f your discussion I thought of the squirrels and smaller animals that are hit and left on the side of the road and I thought no way.
