Has someone made money with Ebay?

I have heard a lot of stories about people making a fortune with Ebay. I don't see it possible. I don't even know how to pick the right product. I think I'll likely to lose money to Ebay because of those listing charges.
Tell me what you know about making money with Ebay.

I've made money with ebay before, but it can take time, and you have to pick the right stuff to sell. I've paid $1 for toys that I sold on for $10, and $10 for stuff I sold for $30! You have to be certain before you buy anything to sell of the price it will go for. I find cult classic stuff sells very well!

WOW.. could you give a link to a product you listed on Ebay that's no longer selling, if you don't mind? I'm interested in checking out how you promote things like that.

It's against the rules to post links here I think, but one of the items was a batman hotwheels car, that I bought for 84p and sold for over a fiver. Hotwheels are collectable themselves, but it you go for the Cult stuff like batman it sells much better.
The others were doctor who figures which I bought for £5 and sold for £15.
It helps because I work at a supermarket, so I can get all the rarer stuff where you just get like 1 type in a box of 100!
