Friends,
Is it really required to introduce computers and computer related programmes and knowledge to childern below 5th class(standard) in their syllabus as part of a subject?I have seen many schools to impress parents introducing computers at very tender age( Right from kinder garden). How it is going to affect on the minds of kids.?
I also feel that the software and call centers have impacted the higher education of many and have indirect impact on other core engineering subjects like Mechanical, Civil and Electrical Engineering branches and also on R &D activities. What dou say on this?

I prefer to use the computer to children because the computers are accuracy and speed so what the children learns from computer is technology the technology helps them to developed their creativity so it is better to use computers from childhood and make them to learn the new technologies.

I think it's wise nowadays to introduce kids to computer and related programmes as soon as possible...it's the 21st century and everything you see nowadays are computerized. Be it schools, banks or hospitals computers are present everywhere...Considerable amount of time and money is spent on research to make computers which can do everything even the household chores(as you see in sci-fi movies)...and this research is in it's final stages...the day is not far when you can see your imagination converted to reality...so if you want your kids to be future proof then I would suggest you start teaching them about computers very soon.....

I had computers and basic computer programming in secondary standards 8th,9th and 10th standard. It is not good for kids to sit in front of the computer for programming at such a young age. They should just have knowledge like how a computer looks and its parts.

I don't think a computer class to kindergarden students is appropriate. But at5th grade, it should be okay. I expect my child to be good at using the computer before entering high school. In this day and age, the computer is very important to our way of life. Of course, kids always need guidance and parental supervision otherwise they will end up attracting a lot of scammers and stuff like that.

With Regards to high level thinking and motivating children in become critical thinkers introducing the young to computers is a must. It is well known that while initially the majority will learn how to utilise the PC as novice users others will easily gravitate towards intermidate and advanced users where they become developers of content and drive the internet revolution. Once a child becomes a producer or creator of content they are deemed highlevel thinkers. Of course the parents need to monitor their childrens usage of the internet activities as it could also lead them to becoming addicted chat junkies or worse!!!

my nephew is only 5 years old but since 3 or 4 we already introduce him to computer...all companies are using computers for filing and easier for them to find documents and all...at early age, it would be easier to teach them at least basics...

what u have said is correct i agree with, introducing computers below fifth standard is waste as they dont know what is the defination of computers and coming to the engineering ppl, this is too much that they are intro computer subjects to mechanical and other branches which is mere waste as it is not their preference bt dont know what is this curriculum..!!!and because of introducing computers to other branches of engg most of the s/w companies are prefering ece and mech people to be placed in their companies and finally the students who majored in cse are remaining unemployed

I think it is good to introduce the computer n its studies as soon as possible. Moreover it is our requirement also. we are in 21 century and the technoloy which we are using is totally based on it.
I want to tell u one more thing that I had also started to study the basic of computers from 3rd standard in my school.

I dont think computers should be introduced 2 children in their tender age..... if a child sits in front of a computer for hours it will have various side affects on him... at max childrens should be given access to computers at an age of 15 or 16 so that they are physicaly n mentally strong to handle the computers.....

lol Ive known computers since I was four, I would play those old sprite games like chips challenge that one skiing game that I could never figure out, and jazz ball, Wasnt allowed on the internet though, and that was at home, and I played outside A LOT more than on the computer I was more interested in playing WITH my brother than without. at 6 years old I was allowed online, but ONLY on PBS.com and I loved playing on the whimsys house part, and the arthur games especially busters ice cream scoop challenge or whatever that was XD yeah I didnt start really getting heavily into computer until we moved out here when I was 12. and thats because there were never really any kids, and it was easier to chat on my computer than to try to walk up to someone and start a conversation... I was (and am) homeschooled too.

My son is 6 years old and he has his own personal computer here at home.I have made sure that he has a lot of educational programs installed on his computer and he play's with these educational games daily. He also spends time on educational websites learning. I believe it is very important for young children to learn early with computers because that is where most of the jobs are going to be when our children grow up and they will have advanced computer skill's when they are adults because they learned & mastered basic computer skills at a young age. I don't think it computers will effect kid's in a negative way. To me learning computer skill's is just that, a skill, and I doubt it has much or any effect of a child's psychological mind.

i started to get to know about computer at the age 10 years old. at the age of 13 years old i could assemble a computer. now i could even repair almost all kind of desktop and laptop. that is the goodness of getting to know something about computer at the early age. furthermore, we are living in the world of information technology which made us rely on the computer very much. almost everything nowadays using computers. even car need to use computer to make it run efficiently.

I don't think it's bad idea to have the computers introduced to the little children. We all know that there are some computer programs that will be educational to the children, depending on how they would take it (seriously or as a joke). But internet, I don't think that is a bad idea, as long as the parents have some kind of popup blockers that blocks the popup that contains the innappropriate material for the younger children to see.
