I just offered a football book to a friend of mine as a birthday gift, and I thought of tit as a discussion topic.
Do you read football books?
Books written by journalists, players or great players memoirs, books written as a tribute to great performances of a team or another?I've read a few. I remember the book "We were also on the Conte Verde", a book about Romania's participation in the first FIFA World Cup, Uruguay 1930. The SS Conte Verde was the ocean liner that transported the European teams to Uruguay, Romania being one of the four teams to make the trip to Uruguay.
I think these books offer us an unique insight on the past football events, considering television wasn't so well developed. Also, statistic books are very useful.

That's a good idea. I've never bought something online, but now I'm making arrangements to have access to online transactions. I've submitted the papers for a new account with an attached debit card to use for Internet transactions only. Maybe once I get that done I'll give it a try.
Thanks for the suggestion!

I am a fanatic about football so I would appreciate it for sure. It depends on whom is going to receive it. I agree with you that football statistics and history is essential for football lovers. © ronaldinu 2008

It's not something I've read a lot of, although I can definitely recommend reading The Greatest Footballer You Never Saw: Robin Friday Story by Paul McGuigan. It's a really good insight into 70's football and an amazing true story of a great footballer, that not many people have heard of.
The only other book I've read is the Eddie Turnbull biography, he was one of the famous five the infamous forward line for Hibs in the 50's and he also managed Hibs and gave us some great years in the 80's.
I have started Brilliant Orange: The Neurotic Genius of Dutch Football by David Winner, which is not just about dutch football but about Holland and dutch life in general but have got a bit waylaid by other books but hopefully I'll get back to it as it is a really interesting book.

It must be really great to have insights on what was happening to your favorite club back in the day... I must confess I don't have any books talking about what was happening around my favorite team, Steaua Bucharest, back in the glorious days...

That's a shame, maybe you could research and write one, oh and I talking about club histories has reminded me of another set of books that I've been meaning to start. It's the complete history of Hibs written by Alan Lugton, we've got the first one but I haven't read it yet.
