Hi Louise, Absolutely not, I wouldn't even consider it. Why would people want to make their pets suffer in this way? Beats me. Huggles. Ellie :D

All I can think about is the poor dog being restrained while the color develops.. if it is irritating the skin, the poor dog can not say it...

Although it doesn't surprise me that people would colour their pets' hair, it also disgusts me. Why would they want to do that? If colour was THAT important to them, then they should've chosen a pet with the colour of fur they wanted in the first place. I have never coloured my pets' hair, nor would I ever. Not even those temporary Hallowe'en spray colours. You don't know what's in that stuff that could be toxic and harmful to animals when they wash themselves.

Very good points! We have no idea if they are allergic to the color.. The one that I saw was a Pink Poodle .. Hard to find a pink haired Poodle.

I rather doubt my crazy cats would be amused if I tried to color their fur - heck, what color could I color them anyway - I have all kinds of cats now

Your kidding??? What are they using, store bought chemicals? I would never put that stuff on my animals, in fact I am looking for alternatives for myself because I am no longer going to use chemicals on my hair again..

I really can't argue the fact that the chemicals are harsh. And very smelly. At least we know what is happening and why it is happening. I really feel bad for the dogs.. I think it is so unnecessary!

One time I put red dye on the very tip of my grey cats tail!!! I have no idea why I did it but it was funny as h*ll!! She had it for months that way till the fur basically grew out. She didn't lick it so don't anyone worry at all. I took it off her tail before she got anywhere near it!!!

I havnt but I wanted to...just a small spot or maybe his whole bottom white half (referring to my boy cat) mom said no...It was after I discovered you cant dye synthetic hair, I was using kool aid anyway, so other than the normal chemicals that are considered "safe" to put in are body, it wouldnt of harmed him, but I dont think he would have liked having that nasty stuff on him...so Ill just hold onto the funny thought of half my cat being green P.S. I really dont think I would have even if mom has said yes, just for the record :P

You gotta admit, it would be kinda funny to see a green cat walking around but what I've really always wanted to do, is dye a cow purple...I'm a major purple cow freak, So I always thought it would be cool

Nope, I haven't colored our dog's or cat's hair. I wouldn't even consider doing something of this nature until I talked with their vet and get his professional opinion. Cats in particular are constantly licking themselves and wouldn't think that would be healthy. I know some pet owners do this especially around Halloween.

I don't like anything artificial on humans let alone in dogs. It's artificial. I hate it. It is unnatural and make them look ugly. I have seen a poodle dyed pink. Yuck! © ronaldinu 2008

I do not have any cats or dogs right now. Although, in the past, I have had my share and love them. However, if I did, I would not color their hair. If you really love something, why change it?

I'll never understand some people! It's bad enough that they put stupid outfits on their dogs but to dye their fur is just insane! Having had allergic reactions to hair dye myself I'd never use chemicals on my dog. Nature has provided her with a beautiful coat and although she's very pale for a German Shepherd I wouldn't change it for anything. Why would anyone think a PINK poodle or a BLUE pomeranian could be more attractive than a beautiful white one is beyond me!

Ummmmm, no. I really don't understand why people would do this. The expense alone boggles my mind. I think it is really silly, personally. And, of course, I worry that the dye will hurt the animal, but that is just me worrying.

Why would anyone do that? Is dying your pet's hair a current fad? If it is, I hope it doesn't last too long. I suppose it's clear that I don't color my cats hair, nor ever will.

No! I don't think I ever would either. It doesn't seem safe for the animal and it really isn't necessary.

No I don't. Never have and never will because the dog has no idea what's being done to it and dog's skin is so much different from ours and the ingredients may burn it's skin. I think it's an attention getter for the person who'd doing it to their dog. Sorry, my opinion.

We once dyed our pet dog's fur. She originally had light gold color then we highlighted her with black dye from my dad's hair dye set. Our neighbors actually thought that we had a new dog. She did look different and revamped actually! Her fur lasted for about 4months I guess.

it started at dog show where owners try to make the pets look as perfect as possible(most shows frown on it at least and for many it results in disqualification) Once it started the Hollywood types had to primp their pets designer style. My Great aunt used to use nail polish on her dogs nails. It made clipping them without nicking the vein very difficult. Sweaters for some small dogs are a necessary health precaution but some of the costumes people force their pets to wear have got to make the animals wonder how they got a master with an IQ lower than theirs. ON THE OTHER HAND. after our recent fiasco a noen pink and orange cat might make me rest a bit easier.
