How many people have Panic Attacks? It isn't any fun. I get them every now and then. I was on the phone talking to my girl-friend on the phone and I had one. I had to tell her to hold on for a minute I felt like I couldn't breathe. My heart kept beating really fast. I use to think I was having a Heart Attack, but found out that that they were Panic Attack. Every now and then this happens.

I suffer from sever panic attacks that are usually assosiated with my depression. I have learned to handle tham though...therapy has helped me a lot, I have learned several useful techniques to deal with them. If you haven't done so yet, you might want to see your doctor.

Back when I was still married I used to get panic attacks every now and again. I haven't had one in years since I divorced. It is a real scary feeling sometimes, and I can relate to wondering if you're having a heart attack or something. One thing my one Dr taught me was breathing in a pattern to get it under control. I must say it does work. Take a deep breath in slowly (for a count of 5), then hold it for a count of 5, and let it out slowly counting to 5. And you do that a few times until you start to notice the attack lessening. It does slow down the rhythm and get it under control. I was glad he shared that with me. Gee, I hope you're relaxing tonight, stress like that is so hard on a body.

I never used to get panic attacks until about a year ago when I came home to a very strange man in my house. The bolt on my door was locked and I don't have a key to it so I thought my husband was home. Turns out the man locked himself in my house and had the nerve to answer the door when I rang the door bell. When he came to the door I ran and got in my car and sped away. Then later on that night after the police were gone and we were headed to bed, I guess I must have heard something to trigger it, I'm not sure. But I couldn't breathe, my heart was racing and I fainted. My husband had to call 911. So now I take Ativan for it. I only take it when I feel one coming on. And it helps so much.

OMG they're scary as hell, aren't they? I get them too and what freaks me out is that I never know when I'll get one! Half the times, I get them when there's nothing even to panic about! I've had to go to the hospital 3 times because my heartbeat was so fast (225 beats a minute!) and had been doing it for so long that it was out of control (they say if "tachycardia" lasts longer than 25 or 30 minutes you need to get to the emergency room!) - they had to give me a 12 mg instead of the usual 6 mg shot of something that gets your heartbeat back to normal! It is so scary though - I too thought I was having a heart attack! You get really dizzy and weak and I don't know about you, but my whole body will be shaking along with that heart rhythm. I wish I knew how & why I get them though - like I said, they usually start for no reason (and I can feel them coming too - can you?) Sometimes a baggie of ice cubes held on my neck helps, sometimes not. Sometimes a cold bath or splashing cold water on my face helps - not always. I've tried the method the hospital suggests - bearing down like you're having a bowel movement, but it doesn't work for me. The worst ones are when I get them out in public or while driving!

Wow! You too? like I told the other person, I was drivimg one day and I had to pull over and take some deep breaths, that was the first time that ever happened while I was driving. It was scary too! My Girl-frind that was in the car with me said are you alright do you need to go to the Hospital. I told her no I will be alright I just kept taking deep breaths, that will hjelp you too, if you do that. It works good for me. I hope it helps for you. have a good day! also when I get stress too it happens.

I also have panic attacks and in very untimely situations. I get panic attacks when I get really really stressed and I just want to rip my chest as I'd have a hard time breathing and my sweat is all over the place. But the most dangerous time for me to have it is when I feel something bad. Like when I feel chest pains or pain on some other part of the body. Well, mostly if it's something new that I feel I get a bit scared and my panic attack starts. My vision starts to blur and I feel like I'm going to pass out.

Today when I had one my head felt really funny and my heart starting beating so fast, it scares me when this happen. Sometimes they come for no appartment reason I am not stressed or anything it just happens. Thanks for sharing.

The good thing is that when it happens, I don't pass out and I try to fight it. And you're right at that. My head felt very heavy and I can feel my heartbeat almost all throughout my body. The last time it happened was when I felt a stabbing pain in my chest. It was really scary. I thought that was it. How are you doing now? I hope you're already fine. Take care.

I can utterly sympathize!!! I have had the worse during my divorce and I was on medication. For years ( since I was 12) I have had them and tried everything to make them stop. I tried to breathing techniqe, the exersize, the meditation PRAYER and only recvd a small reprieve until I finaly broke down and got on Lexapro and Klonapin. I hated having to do it at the time, but I don't regret it at all now. I would say it saved my sanity in the end! I will pray for you and hope for the best.

Yes I get them and it is a very scary experince. I had one that was pretty bad last month. I had gotten into a heated arguement with my brother inlaw and we had been fighting off and on for a few days well the final blow out day came with the screaming and yelling. I felt my throat close up finding it very hard to breath I knew I had to get out and get some fresh air and calm down. Alot of people told me to use a paper bag to breath in and out of well that dosn't work for me it only makes it worse I need cold air and to just sit quietly til my breathing is back to normal.

Sorry to hear about your Mom. I think when we are under stress this happens, but sometimes I am not stress and it happens clear out of the blue. It happened twice this week-end! I was on the phone at the time. I had to laid the phone down to try to control it. Thanks for responding. A lot of people have it I see.

himarciascott oh yes I used to many years ago. I would get them in this huge grocery warehouse where we would get produce at wholesale cost. people would be coming at me and i would freeze, there were so many and they would knock off the veggies]on the floor then walk on them. I just clung to mycart, my heart' was going so fast I thought I was having a heart attack, and I could not move. myhubby would come get me, led me out to a table and chairs, then pay for my groceries, then get me a cupf of coffee and a sanwich. he would talk soothingly and soon I wou ld be able to breathe again.it was so frightening and I thought I was going bonkers for sure. But I did get some help; and learned how to not panic. now I never haveone of those as I know how to handle it now.

Panic attacks are not fun. They can come on suddenly and with little or no warning. I haven't had one in a while but remember them quite well. One of the causes may be stress so try meditating. Other than that during an attack remember to breath and try to sit down. The more agitated you become the worse the attack is.
