It all started 22 years ago. My son named his daughter after me. We both have the exact same name First middle and last. No problem we lived in different states. Then 2 years later he named his son after himself and his dad. The exact same name too. Then 18 years ago I came to live with him to help raise his children as he was in the military and was divorced. Now we were all living in the same house until last year when he moved up north. He changed the mail and this is where the post office comes in. My grandson and granddaughter and myself all live at the same address as he did. All my grandsons mail get sent up north. Since some of the mail for my grandson only put the full name and not the Jr or the III on the address it all is forwarded. There is nothing we can do because His 2 employers won't add the iII to the name. It has been over a year. The post office tells us that after a year and for 6 months mail that hasn't gotten the address changes will be sent back to the senders. Any way it's all a big mess. So my point is don't give your children the exact same names as members of your close family.

Hello James. Parents just don't realize the problems they can cause by giving names the same, especially living in the same house. My granddaughter and myself have the exact same name and we live in the same house so I know what your going through. we can pretty much tell whose mail it is by the return address. All except one. We both have accounts at the same bank. So we just open it and then pass it to who ever it belongs to.

That would be a problem. Its too bad you didn't know what would happen and you could have just sent your sons mail to him. Do you know who George Forman is, the boxer/also the maker of the George Forman Grill. He named all his sons George and his daughter Georgette, can you imagine the troubles they have. He has a bunch of kids too.

Well when my son moved to Michigan he had the family mail forwarded up there so everyones male went up there for a while. We finally got that straighted out. but there isn't any thing we can do about the present mess except have him mail the grandson's mail back. Boy I can imagine the mess that all those Georges have with mail and other stuff too. Thanks for stopping by.

Hi dee,
I have friends also who are named after their grandpa but people in our Country is very particular about adding the jr and the 111 after their name so, i didn't hear anyone complaining about it!
Maybe all the people will be considerate enough that having the 111 and jr will always complete the real identity of the person!

My Dad, oldest brother and Nephew have the same name...my Dad's middle name is different but the first and last of all three are the same and my brother and nephew have all three same names the same. My Dad lives in seperate state so it's not a huge deal but my Dad did almost get arrested b/c they came looking for his other son and only used the last name. Since they both had the same last name they thought my Dad was the one they wanted. My Nephew is still little so there's not alot of confusion right now but I imagine there will be when he's older.

Hello deebomb. Yeah, it is a good idea not to have the same name for our children, otherwise it will cause inconvenience in our life. I wish you to get the mail to you soon.

I've seen this kind of thing happen in other families too. Sure, it's nice for the tradition in the family, but boy, can it really bollux things up sometimes. One family I knew had the childrens names the exact same as Mom & Dad's too, and they had similar problems to yours. In this day and age where every mailing list is sold, and re-sold many times, it's easy to see where just leaving off Jr, Senior, the III'rd could get left off by mistake. Still, it's a real shame you have to go through this headache!
