a lot of singers are doing acting on top or instead of singing now and what do you think about it? is it a good idea? not many seem good at it lol do you have any that you think are doing well in both and should continue? do you think they should just choose one and stick to it? do support your favorite ones in both ways even though they may not be good at it? im trying to think of any that i think crossed over and did great but i cant think of anyone.. maybe a few that had a small part in 1 movie and did good but any that make it big and well...

For the most part it seems a natural progression as most of them are somewhat creative and artistic. Also most are trained at least on a minimal level to do both. Obviously your talents may be more favorable in one area. And lastly I think that like everyone else they are attempting to create more than one stream of income.

some people seem to jump around without any or any quality training and do everything badly though lol

I would rather see a singer become an actor than the other way around! especially in the UK as we once had a major influx of soap actors trying their hand at pop singing Beyonce is a good actress, she has done very well!

some are pretty good like Mark Walberg, Queen Latifa and the others. so i don't mind all that its the ones that are BAD that i don't like like Britney Spears and Kelly Clarkson...Justin Timberlake is iffy and the movie with Lance Bass was pretty bad. I'm not insulting their singing talents, but Justin and Britney are more 'mickey mouse' actors still and haven't evolved much past that. but thats also my opinion.

yeah brit was ok at best in crossroads but i think it was because it was mickey mousish but if she were to come back and do it today it would be laughable.. and i doubt she could pull off anything else.. i think her one movie was a one shot thing that just didnt totally bomb haha.. i havent watched jt because i had a feeling it would be a total disapointment.. i like a few of his songs but he annoys me in every other way

I think that they should do whatever they're good at. If they're good at acting, then there's no reason for them not to have a go at it, but if they're just having a go for the sake, when they don't really have a talent, then I don't think that should happen.

it makes you wonder when they are bad at it if they know since a lot of stars have people around them that will tell them whatever they wanna hear

It is okay for me just as it was not forced, what I mean is the singer can really act. I think if you are a good singer and you internalize the meaning of the songs you are singing it can also be called acting right. I think Jennifer Lopez is fine. Many Moore just found some roles that fits her like in A Walk To Remember where she portrays a nerdy type of girl. I think Britney Spears should not consider acting again. I do not know if Lindsay Lohan and Hilary Duff were singers first before being an actress but I think they are ok, well really depends on the roles. It is more fun watching actors and actresses sing in movies like in Music and Lyrics when Drew Barrymore and Hugh Grant sang. I think Adam Sandler is a good singer. Well some people were always present when talents were distributed in the world. :)

It depends upon the nature of music and the song. Since majority of the songs these days have a music which can prompt you to acting many of the singers are also do the same way. Now if you are singing at a stage and the public is dancing perhaps your acting will be suggestive and the audience is prompted to dance more and reciprocate the singer. But there may be some songs which do not warrant acting and there it is difficult to accept such an action. But I tend to agree that the majority these days would prefer to cross over to acting.

maybe they should try out broadway or musicals before going into straight acting only movies

singers have been going into acting or trying to act since (at least) Elvis. Some are good at it and some are, um, interesting...

Sad to say, in my country, all actors/actresses are asked to sing, dance, host, and do a horde of other things even when the talent is not there. One thing is for sure, they look attractive. It is sad because in order to get into showbusiness, it is imperative that there is a factor in you that is attractive to the masses (general public). It is definitely a money-making business for talent managers and movie/tv producers. It is also very funny because a lot of the talented ones are not being recognized in my country but are recognized in other countries for their talent. Sad, indeed!

that sucks that they HAVE to do all of those things no matter what i think it would put some people off from trying if they know that they were horrible in some areas even though they are awesome in others

Back in the 40's, 50's & 60's there were a lot of musicals where entertainers did anything and everything. Many of them excelled as singers, dancers and actors and ceased to be known for one genre of entertainment alone. Bing Crosby, Fred Estaire, Ginger Rodgers, Gene Kelly, just to name a very few. All time best crossover would have to be Barbra Streisand. She's a great singer, actress, comedienne, director and writer. Very talented lady. By far one of the worst crossovers in history was Elvis Presley... great singer but ugh what a terrible actor, even worse dancer and he never got any better over time. But he was so idolized nobody cared as long as he sang something. Don't even get me started on the trend of rappers turned actors.. OMG pulleeez. The only ones I will even give credit to is Ice T and Queen Latifah. Today, the talent pool is a bit thin for crossovers. About the only multitalented entertainers I can think of in the last 20 yrs or so is John Travolta, all around great entertainer. I hesitantly will say Madonna, she had 1 semi-good movie Evita, but she's an ok singer, an excellent dancer, ultimate self promoter. Sadly most of the really multitalented performers stick to the theater stage. Musicals are still very popular with live theater. The one who surprised me most in the theater was Sebastian Bach. Turned out to be a decent stage actor as well as awesome singer. I'm sure I've left out quite a few but those are the only ones who popped into my head on the spur of the moment. Unfortunately with most of my choices I've shown my age.

Well, with the proliferation of MTVs, a lot of singers are already part time actors. Cos they have to be in their own videos of their music. So it is not surprising if they ever go into acting to suppliment their singing career. Well, for one, I know Will Smith is doing well both in acting and in singing. Jeniffer Lopez also did great in both arena. How about Tina Turner? She did quite ok in a few movies as well. Madonna? She did a few movies in her time. Not too bad the acting. And she is still triving in her music career. Whitney Houston also did great in both acting and singing. I am sure there are more, but off hand, I can only name these few.

I do not understand why do singers do this. I mean they are really good in singing but suddenly they jump into acting. Why do they do so? I have hardly seen any singer who has done well as an actor. Even sone of the directors jump into acting. The reason is still unknown.

I guess it's okay if they act and there good at it. But if there not good at it and are doing it just for the fame and money, then I think that's wrong.

Agreed..I don't mind a singer branching out for another bite of the fame apple,as long as they're making a good job of their casting and direction..so many of them have that sort of "Deer in the Headlights" look about them on set that makes you wonder what they're doing there!

Its called taking advantage of the opportunities life gives you. These singers make it because of their talent and hard work and that is why they get such extra opportunities. If they try their hand at acting too then there is nothing wrong.

i think some dont think they have to try hard since they are already a star.. but the ones that work hard usually do ok

First this trend was brought up by the actors. So singers had also no choice left other than crossover. So long the change works because people always want to see their old stars doing new things.

yeah i guess the curiosity of their fans will help start them as long as they have the talent to follow it up

As long as the talent is there in both singing and in acting, I don't mind at all! I find that it is somewhat uncommon to have a person who is good in both areas, but there are a few... Andy Lau for example, I think is a good actor/singer (although I've only seen a few of his movies, and only heard a few of his songs). I think if one of my favourite singers turned to acting, I would probably watch the movie, just to see. If they weren't good at all, I'd probably just stop watching their movies, or maybe wait until it gets played on television .

I think talent is there so if they are a good singer....well it might be natural. If you are interested in other types of artsy things....you might be able to learn it. But you really have to practice. The only one I can think of that did very well was Dolly Pardon....she is both a good singer and actress...but she chose parts that fit her personality!

That is too normal.Maybe they want make more money. If they do good at it,I agree with it.It can promote the development of the acting and the singing.By contrary,I oppose it.If you aren't able to do it,you had better stick to sing.

It´s really rare to succeed in both singing and acting... I´m not saying it can´t be done but the truth is most singers can´t act and most actors can´t sing.
