Death Threats and Vandalism Hit ACORN after McCain's Debate Comments

The day after McCain told all who would listen that ACORN was in the process of perpetrating the largest voter fraud sceme in history that would undermine the "fabric of democracy", a number of his supporters sent death threats either by email or by phone as well as vandalizing at least one of their offices and stealing office equipment. The email was traced back to a man in Baltimore who used his Facebook email to send the threat. At least we know he's not someone capable of cognitive reasoning. But, the burglars stole computers from an office in the NW. If there is any personal information on them of either ACORN volunteers or the people they've registered, then I say there's a true risk to those people who are now vulnerable in their homes. Here is the article: http://www.mcclatchydc.com/election2008/story/54360.html Do you think this is a sane and rational approach to anything? Again, I'll ask again, is this really the kind of world we want our children and grandchildren to grow up in? A world where it's considered appropriate to act violently against people who disagree with you? Who might actually have more support than you? Isn't that a risk to anyone in a democracy? That others might not agree and might out-vote you?Isn't this behavior more of a threat to the "fabric of democracy" than anything? If you're not willing to accept that the opposition might win once in a while, then it doesn't seem that it's a democracy you're really after. Am I so wrong in thinking that?

This is despicable and indefensible! I thought it was as bad as it could get when people bombed abortion clinics and shot the doctors that were performing a legal procedure - whether someone is opposed to it or not, it IS legal - and in at least one case killing a receptionist at a clinic some years back. In those cases the anti-choice crowd used the reasoning that the people they targeted were themselves responsible for taking human lives so they justified these actions that way. What is the justification to do this? Nobody involved in ACORN, no matter what they may be "guilty" of, has threatened anyone or harmed anyone. Most of those who work there are just like the rest of us, doing their jobs. No, this isn't the kind of world I want my grandchildren to grow up in and raise their own families! However, I'm afraid it's going to be, at least a big part of it.Right here in this very discussion one of our esteemed "picky" members said she doesn't care what happens to those (insert several profanities) scumbags from ACORN. She'd also said it would be fine if someone took out Bill Ayers for things he did decades ago even though he's been a "model citizen" since. It's the kind of vigilante justice some on the right openly endorse and I really have to wonder who their next target may be. Annie

Why weren't these people outraged when Bush stole the election? why did they sit silent? Now that they think Obama is going to get a few votes they are threatening and screaming about it. How funny, they become outraged when it no longer benefits THEM. I say.....keep on truckin Obama you are almost to the White House. Just be careful because there are so many nuts out there. Nuts who can't see how brilliant and qualified you are. McCain seems to be attracting them like a magnate....What happened to his vow to keep the campaign clean?

I think this is all insane. I mean come on seriously? Does everyone think that these ACORN employees that committed these crimes are really going to go to the extent of getting fake Social Security cards and a state issued ID just to go and vote? No! They just wanted to make money and they were dishonest. It's just like an employee that loafs all day at work they are in essense stealing from their employer (being paid without doing anything). These accounts of fake voter registration is the same idea, getting paid for doing nothing.
