Screamo is a branch of Emo or in other words pop-punk music. Emo now is on the wave between teenagers, so the liking of it should pass soon. Well, but listening to Emo music could be more than a trend. Sometimes it expresses the inner feelings, thoughts, like lonelines, hatred, sadness... :)

Yeah, I actually do listen to the songs - the parts I understand anyway- and they usually do deal with strong emotions. I guess it's exactly what a teenager would relate to. I just don't get the screaming.

Every parent has hated their child's music since the beginning of time. I'm sure your parents probably hated what you listened to as well. It's a generational thing. However, you shouldn't be subjected to listening to it if he's playing extremely loud. Let him know that he can listen to whatever he wants to listen to; he just needs to keep the volume at a respectful level (for you and the neighbors) and that loud music causes hearing damage. Trying to get him to listen to something else or lecturing him about his taste in music is just going to make you more lame in his eyes than you already are. Every kid thinks their parents are lame, no matter what they're into.

I actually like most of what he listens to. It's just the screamo which he does turn down when I ask. He really is a good kid. I just wish he wouldn't play the same songs over and over. But like you said, I don't want to be "lame".

He's probably just really into the songs. I'm the same way. When I like a song I want to hear it all the time. And then I get tired of it, wish the radio would stop playing it, and then I hate it. lol. He'll get over it in time.

youngsters choice are really far different from what we like, they always go for the extremes and exaggerations of all things and that includes music... LOUD AND SCREAMING songs are their favorite... with that case, you should have a room for your child, for him/her to explore his generation thing... but let's try to understand them in some ways...

You're right, they can be and they do go to extremes. I do try to understand, really, but unfortunately his songs are on itunes on my computer in the kitchen at my desk, so it's kind of hard to avoid. Obviously, I let him listen to them pretty much when he wants to. I just leave the room, if my work is done. It's just sometimes it just gets under my skin a bit. I suppose my music does the same to them though.

my mother also dont want that kind of music..
whenever i play it in our component..
she always tell me that..why do i like that kind of music..she said that it really sucks her ear..so annoying..and then she turned of the component..
teens today really like to explore more things..like exploring this kind of music..
