i recently went away with my 2 children on a short trip to another state.i found it really interesting that you really need to research things before you travel.for example finding a hotel that is children friendly, and had facilities that would amuse and occupy children.just looking up on the net at a hotel ,you really can not tell if they are children friendly or not.since this was the first time i have travelled as a single mum,it was an eye opener for me as i was use to my hubby making all the arrangements etc.just organising transport to and from airports was an ordeal and if you did not know what to do you could easily be ripped off.eating out, like where to eat was an ordeal.so i thought a single mum's guide to travelling would be a good sort of book to write.what do you think? have you had a nightmare holiday while travelling with your children on your own? please share some of the difficulties you have had to overcome while travelling on your own with your children.cheers sue

My daughter is only two years old... so i have not really taken her to long overnight travels... only to places where we will be home the same day... but if the time comes when i will take her with me on a long trip... i will surely do a lot of research first... I did just that when i do not have her yet... i would use the internet on searching for valuable information regarding the hotel and other important stuff i need to know about the place i will go to...

yes you really need to research before you go away.i like to stay in a hotel that is designed for children,so you can actually have a holiday as well.hotels that have kids clubs etc.at least you can have a sunbake while they are playing with other children in the resort.i hope you have many happy holidays with your little one.cheers sue

I've always traveled with my kids alone..we've been to Canada, Erie PA, Massachusetts and New Hampshire. I wouldn't trade any of those trips for anything. Mind you - it was me alone with THREE KIDS!!! Normally I would pick them up from daycare on Friday and head to the gas station, fill up the van and go... My kids have always been well behaved and they knew the rules of travel: We go potty when I say, we eat when I say and no asking how much further :-) They loved it...we have to do that again :-)

i love those sort of trips where you just fill up the car and go.it sounds like you have your little ones well trained for car traveling.they are really so memorable, the little and the big trips we do with them.i can still remember all my holidays with my parents.cheers sue

I took my older son to Italy and we had a lovely time. I took my younger son to Portugal in 2007 and to Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia in 2008. Going up stairs with a pushchair is challenging. In Estonia my son's pushchair broke so I had to buy a new one there. I have traveled a great deal on my own and I went around the world when I was 20 years old. I fell down an open drain in Malaysia. When I went to the Maldives in 2005 I got attacked on a lonely beach. I am still able to travel and have wonderful times in many different countries.
