why it is said that self respect is the essence of one's personality? Is not self respect concept a form of ego? What's ur view.

Self respect is far from being a form of ego. Literraly, it is respecting yourself. Each of us has values that are expected by society ( family friends work etc) but we also have our inner values that are governed by our conscience. Self respect is for example, dressing in a manner that makes you and those around you comfortable. If for example you drink,thne behaving in an acceptable manner, which would not cause you embabrrassment afterwards,is a form of self respect. To respect yourself is not a form of ego.

The two are quite close together but self respect is when you stand up to what is right and for your respect but with an open mind, ego is when you have a closed mind and refuse any reason or logic. If you are in an argument and you admit you are wrong that does not in any way lower your self respect.
