Why Is It?

That we all cheered and cried and celebrated when the Berlin Wall came down and when the U.S.S.R. finally fell apart because we hated communism and socialism, which is what these countries stood for. They were oppressive because once socialism comes in, only a few people remain in power and greed and the desire for power takes over and the citizens ultimately suffer for it. Socialism kills the spirit and forces everyone not in power into a form of slavery. Why can't people see this now? Why are they willing to give up the most powerful and admired nation in the world to something that has already failed so many times over? Why do so many people in this country want the government to take care of them instead of them taking care of themselves? It's a lazy attitude and it will only hurt all of us.

Laziness can be some of it, but I also think fear is a part of it. Too many people today don't have the courage to handle responsibility and a socialistic society removes that responsibility from them. And it's not just responsibility but also doing what is right.
