With all the finacial feare at the moment, who's feeling there have to cut back ?
How do you save money at this time of year ?
Do you think more about just putting it on credit ?
Or will it just be christmas as usual ?I'm on my own and donn't see myself being able to do much at all.

definitely I would spend less this Christmas, I have to plan carefully what to give to my godchildren and my family and of course my husband, this is going to be our first christmas together as married couple so I'm quite excited actually.

We'll be careful this Christmas, but not more so than usual. It's tricky but so long as I am organized it can be done.

Fortunately for myself, my business is thriving right now. The current economic situation around the world actually benefits my business as I help people to make money and repair their credit and get loans etc. I see myself being able to have a great Christmas this year, but I also plan to keep things under control and not get out of hand. Being financially sound doesn't necessarily mean its time to go on a spending spree. Its time to start saving more.

Oh heavens do not put it on credit. Interest rates will go up and credit limits are going down. You will just get yourself in a bigger mess. Cash only is the way to go this year. Even if it means the kids don't get the ultimate must have overpriced toy this year. They would wind up playing with the box anyway.

My goal is to buy about the same amount of gifts as last year, but for less money. I am trying to be more aware of where my money is going and for what. I have started Christmas shopping within the past few weeks and right now I am only buying stuff on sale. Luckily, there are a lot of sales for toys, books, and movies on preschoolers.
My daughter loves Barbie dolls, but I think they can be pretty expensive. KB Toys had Cheetah Girls dolls on sale. My daughter has no clue who they are, but they look just like regular Barbies. In addition to the doll, you got an extra outfit all for $7.99 with free shipping. When I went to the checkout, it said I got a free doll. So, I got four dolls for $16. It is so silly, but I felt like I hit the jackpot.

I will spend more this Christmas because there are more people to buy for. I will have to make sure that I have enough money to do so because I want to make sure I do not have interest on my credit card statement. I do have a budget so it will be no problem and I usually have a set amount for each member of my family. I do put it all on credit, but then I have to figure out how much to allow as I always pay it off at the end of the month. So I might have to buy things ahead of time, and pay those off at the beginning of December rather then wait until January, not to mention that there are two birthdays coming up in November. So not matter what, it is always a bit tight.

We don't charge anything at Christmas because that could get us in a ton of trouble.
Last year we did a lot of cutting back. With my husbands family, we only buy for his parents. We don't exchange with his sister or her kids.
With my family, we only buy for the kids. Then the adults do a pick a name gift exchange and we usually set a $30 limit on the gift.
I have picked up alot of gifts so far this year. I just last night had a $10 off any $10 purchase coupon at Pennys. I bought my son a shirt for Christmas and I also got myself a new towel and hand towel. The whole thing ended up costing me $2.
Then I had a $20 coupon from Finish Line so I bought my son a pair of sandles he wanted. They were $40 regularly, so $20 after the coupon.
Then I saw on the freecycle site that someone had a dry/erase board. I went and picked it up and it looked new! I am going to get some of the markers to go with it and wrap it up as a gift to my daughter.

For sure! Christmas is not supposed to be about gift giving anyway. I've already told most of the people I exchange with that this year I am only going to be giving gifts to children and to please respect my decision and not give me anything. I would feel bad if they got me something and I didn't get them something. I will be making my list this week and start checking out the sales and buying a couple of modest gifts each pay period so I can finish by Christmas. It's going to be a tough one for sure, but the spirit of Christmas will give us all hope for the coming year.

Hi, Missbdoll! Just like you, I think I am going to be spending a little less this Christmas. I am going to cut off on some of the expenses and be a more practical with the gifts to be given away. I hope that my friends and some relatives will understand if what they got from me is not the same as before.
However, if some bonus or gifts (in monetary form) comes, I think I will still give the best Christmas I have in mind to my husband and children. To my children, I think I'll buy them the toys they wanted for so long. For my eldest, she wanted a bike. Hehehe.
I hope everything went well for everyone this year! Regards, Missbdoll! Happy posting!

I doubt that I'll actually be spending much less than usual, but I'm spacing it out over a longer period of time. I've already paid for two major gifts, have one more to go, then some small ones, which is pretty much what I always do.
I know that Christmas will be tough for some this year. I feel blessed that my income hasn't dropped so far, but who knows what the future holds.

Im planning to spend less this christmas but ofcourse, i'll know the real situation when the christmas comes. But I did something different this year. I actually a portion of our income this 3rd and last quarter of the year as fund for christmas gifts to some relatives. In that way, we can budget our money more effectively.

hello missbdoll,
I think so. I will spend less this Christmas. I think instead of giving my neices and nephews a gift for each of them I better give them a game that they can use for all the family or a food for them to share. For my goddaughters and godsons, I'll give them a simple token for them to use in their studies. Anyway, what's important is the thought of giving not the worth. Spending my time to my family, relatives and friends is even more perfect for it's priceless but the best gifts of all.

For the last ten years or so, I could say that I need not worry about this because primarily I had a job. But I guess this year is going to be a lot different from the other years.
With the financial crisis going on all over the world, it's not a surprise that some establishments are closing shop. And this is what I fear would become of the present situation in the company I'm working with for nearly four years. In fact, it has already made some displacements on employees approximately about twenty of us. The second batch is still on process but what I've heard is, the company is planning to liquidate until the end of this year or until the first quarter of next year.
On this note, I believe it will be helpful on our case if we start to save as much as we can and spend very wisely because times are tough and competition for job placement nowadays is also difficult. So, we really have to cut back on all of our expenses.

I don't really know. I haven't made a Christmas gift list yet so i don't how much I'll be spending. Anyway, I don't remember how much I spent on presents last year so there's no point of comparison for me hehe. I do hope to be more frugal though because I want to buy a new digital camera for myself..
