Are you using the legal edition Windows XP? if you don't, you may get attacked by Microsoft. You will experience blank screen every hour. Be careful!

It seems that 'experiencing a blank screen every hour' is not quite accurate. In countries where pirated software is rife (China, India and Malaysia in particular), Microsoft intend to show a warning dialog on those PCs which are set to receive automatic updates. This article explains further: http://star-techcentral.com/tech/story.asp?file=/2006/4/25/prodit/14029720&sec=prodit
Bill Gates, apparently, has admitted that he is in favour of software piracy in China! This is because more people will buy pirated copies of Windows than would otherwise buy any at all and some of these will inevitable convert their pirated copies to legal ones. This article tells you more: http://labnol.blogspot.com/2007/07/we-love-microsoft-software-piracy-in.html It is a policy that makes sense (in a twisted kind of way). It is something like the 'shareware' concept that allows people to use software for free for a certain length of time and then asks them to pay before continuing to use it.

I think, too, that saying that one might be 'attacked by Microsoft' is inaccurate. Microsoft sells software and is keen to ensure that people use it legally. If you were selling something, I am sure you would be very incensed if someone duplicated your products and undercut you. Most of the buyers of the pirated product would be unaware that the thing they bought was pirated, so your 'attack' would be on the piraters and not on the users.

I hope I am 'professional'! I spent the last 15 years of my working life in IT Support and then in IT Training. I have helped hundreds of people to become more familiar with their PCs and to learn to use them sensibly as a tool!
IT, by the way, stands for 'Information Technology' and covers everything from using a pencil and paper to the most advanced computer and media technology and the Internet. Most people think it just means 'computers' but, in fact, it's really about using the most appropriate tool for the job! If you need to write a shopping list, do you switch on the computer, open up your word-processor, type in your list and print it? Of course not! On the other hand, if you want to list all the books or CDs in your collection, you could easily write it on a sheet of paper but would you then be able to easily search for a book on a particular topic or a particular song? That is where computers come into their own!

Of course my version is legal. I don't believe in breaking the law. I know Windows is expensive but if I can't afford the price I will do without until I can. I know that people do steal from music sites and from Microsoft but how do they sleep at night?

Oh, my dear friend, you are so honest. When i bought my hp laptop computer, the seller installed Windows Vista for me. When i bought my lenovo laptop computer, the seller installed windows XP for me. I don't know whether they are legal. If you don't have Windows, how can you work with your computer?
