How would you compare childhood days in 80's compared to techno kids today?

Sometimes I close my eyes and want to go back to the good old days when you can go out and just play with other kids. Those moments when you talk, run and giggle together. Now, kids don't even go out. They are just stuck in their computers, watching DVDs and even have celphones as their daily companions. What can you say about it? Do you miss those days?

Oh you are still young my dear so you are talking of the 80's which is far, far recent than my childhood years. My childhood days are way, way back. It was in the 60's and I tell you it is really a lot, lot different from today. Before you can count on your fingers who has TV sets. In our place there were only 3 and our family was not blessed enough to have one. There were no computers of course. We...the children did enjoy our childhood so much because we were not stuck in front of the TV or computer but rather we were going out to play with our friends in the neighborhood. The "tumbang preso" the hide and seek" the "bahay-bahayan", the "sipa" the "luksong tinik" the !viola de kamatis". At night when the moon was full and shining so bright...we the children will rejoice because we can play the favorite "Patintero". Ha!ha!ha! Just reminiscing those happy memories make me feel young again. Those childhood games really built up camaraderie amongst the children, yes there were some rifts but those were easily patched up. I would say I had completely experienced the real joy of childhood. I am so sad for the children of today...most of them are addicted to computer games, television and cellphones. Tsk!tsk!tsk! They have been missing a lot! This is a nice topic! I love sensible topics like this. You are from the Philippines my dear. I want to add you as my friend, kindly accept. Happy lotting

These are exactly the stories I heard from older people. Wow! the days were people were more closer and they had wonderful experiences of being with each other. There were times I wish I can be there even for a while where you can just go out and discover new things with friends. You have mentioned about playing under the moon, wow! that was truly an experience that anyone can cherish. Real laughters that can't be bought, unlike now where you can just post moon at your computer to see it everyday and then you laugh. Well, well, I know there are changes everday and no one can control these especially new technologies are coming in. Hope I can let my children experience even one of those moments of truly appreciating people and life. Don't get me wrong, I don't hate changes. I even work for a company under Technology Industry. It's just that knowing that there are people who love those days truly makes me happy. Hey! thanks! I love it when you said you like my topic and it's sensible. I already added you as my friend.

When I read the title of this discussion I was thinking exactly the things you said. Back in those good old days, I found joy in being able to go out after school and play with the other kids from the neighborhood. We would play a lot of street games and would run and shout until we get tired. But now the kids are glued to either the tv or the computer. To me they seem like they're missing out on a lot of fun things.

Glued to either tv or computer is really true!!!! We can even say, kids of today with tv or computer as best buddies. Well, positive about it is they learn a lot from these gadgets. Just watch out on what they are watching from tv or whatever they are surfing from the net.

I picture Cindy Lauper and Madonna with her lace gloves. Yes I had some pink ones lol! I do miss the good old days. I often talk about this with my friends and they also agree. And my mother in law tells me that the children today are very very different. Its more than the old school parents saying to us that we are different. Because at time we still had overall respect for our parents and other adults.

I agree with that. Children today are so different from those of yesterday. Must be the environment and effect of all the new discoveries in life. What did not change? Hmmm...you are right! Laces of Cindy Lauper and Madonna.

I was born in the 70's but I grew up most of my teen years in the 80's. These years are far more enjoyable compare to now. When I was kid back then we would go out and play all day if it holiday, scouting new places, entering the woods, swim in the river and lakes, climbing trees, making a tree house, playing in the rain and all those sweet memories as a child. These thing are for from happening now. No more woods, no more trees, lakes are turn into house projects, they can play in the rain and it easily the get a fever in the rain and such. They are becoming quite a lazy bump I say just hangin in the room, watch dvd,ps3,games and what ever the technological gadget we bought for them. I surely miss those days.
