Just when I thought I had seen it all....

I've seen a lot of hate and awful things going on in this election but, this one REALLY is a topper. Don't get me wrong I'm all for hunting as long as you eat what you kill. But this is just disgusting-
"CULLOWHEE, N.C. – Police at Western Carolina University and wildlife officials were investigating the discovery early Monday of a dead bear cub draped with a pair of Barack Obama campaign signs.
Leila Tvedt, associate vice chancellor for public relations, said Monday night that maintenance workers found the 75-pound bear cub shot to death in front of the school's administration building at the entrance to campus. The Obama yard signs were stapled together and placed over the bear's head, Tvedt said."
So is this what we have to look forward to now that hunting season is starting up? Does this upset anyone else? I'm very appalled by this.

This is extremely disturbing to me, and it wouldn't matter whether it was an obama sign, or a McCain sign. Either way, this political crap and what they are doing is disturbing the hell out of me. I can't believe what people are doing. It really is awful.

This is by far the worst thing that I have seen and I really hope this is the extent of the garbage that goes on.

I hate to generalize, but I found this typical in N.C. culture. Many years ago, I was a zookeeper in Florida. We had a relocation and repopulation program for red wolves (a small wolf native to N.C.). I ended moving to Wilmington, N.C. and overheard a couple of "good old boys" bragging how they would wait for the relocation people and then hunt down the wolves.
I didn't hit anybody, but I left the restaurant without ordering.

It's so sad. I didn't know what a red wolf was I looked it up and they look a little like a coyote. I'm really surprised that you didn't hit anyone because I don't know if I could have been so calm.

Please don't blame the state (whatever state it may be). There are attitudes like this throughout the country, unfortunately.

This is really the saddest, sickest thing I've read in a long time and it is probably indicative of the hate that is in a lot of hearts. I just hope the secret service is on its toes and takes good care of Senator Obama. Especially after he becomes president.

Well said. I hope that all this hate will fade away as soon as this election is all over.

Now the challenge is to find something half as brutal coming from the other side. You know, since Obama supporters are just as bad, there also.

We'll just have to wait and see. Maybe they can come up with something from a unbias news source as well.

Oh come on! There are nutcases on both sides of this. How do we even know if this is a true McCain supporter? It's more likely a crazy white supremacist.

That is appalling. The person who did it should be treated the same way as the bear. To think something like a political election could lead someone to do such a thing. I'll be happy when it's all over.

I don't know what has got into some people in this election. There seems to be so much hate and fear out there, so much polarisation and I fear it could all lead to violence. I just wish both sides wouldn't use such hateful language against each other, it really isn't helping and its creating an atmosphere that encourages these loons to do this kind of thing.

I really hope this is the only case that there is and will be. I would really hate to see people get hurt over a small thing such as an election.

This is discusting, and very disturbing. There are people that have been totally off concerning this Election, and I feel that people really need to Stop and think before doing things like this. And to think they left this where everyone could see it as well. I hope they are caught, and have to pay for their actions before it turns into something worse from here. For me, this is about the Lowest of lowest I think a person can almost go as well.

Wow, what a bunch of liars. Why'd they staple it then? Why didn't they just wrap it up? And why did they leave it on campus for all to see? How lame. They probably won't get anything but a slap on the wrist, and that makes me sick. What a load of crap. I hope the cops aren't even pretending to be that gullible.

I said the other day to one of my more regular readers on my blog, that people are becoming more rabid. I think this is a good example of that.
People seem to be crazier than usual.
BTW, I'm also for hunting as long as you eat what you catch. I'm definitely country, and this was ingrained in me at a young age...
I think how sick this is, is pretty plain.
A cub, a baby bear =(

Eat what you kill, my mom always hated when I said that. This election has stolen reason and sanity from most Americans. It is truly a sad day when anyone would kill a baby animal (in my state I'm pretty sure it's still illegal) just for some political attention.

That is truly sickening. I live in North Carolina; Cullowee is a very small town (less than 4,000 people). It's also home to Western Carolina University.
It will be interesting if they can find out who did it and why. I just read that it is indeed bear season, so it could have been an actual hunter. Nobody knows.
I hope they catch the person/persons responsible and punish them appropriately.

This is just disgusting and I have only drove through North Carolina on my way to South Carolina and it just seems like a really nice state. It's so sad I couldn't imagine living in the town.

You're so optimistic, I am just kidding. This story is just disgusting that someone would do this. Apparently the police have caught several students involved with this. I hope the school hands out some type of punishment as well. The students claim it was all a joke but this is really not funny.

That is disturbing, I read the news piece on it. I'm not an Obama supporter but those people who do this kind of stuff give us passionate people about politics a bad name.

Yes this is so awful. I hope that the police are able to figure out who did this and given that it is a small town I feel they will have better luck. I don't know what the law is there but hopefully it involves some jail time and a big fine.

This is also one of the worst things I've seen, Zephyr, and I also can't wait until this campaign is over because it sure is bringing out a lot of loonies! I just don't know what else to add to what's already been said. I know some have said it's not the fault of hunters and since I'm from a family of hunters I know my husband and the rest of his "hunting buddies" would never dream of shooting a little cub like that for any reason, but the fact is because it's hunting season this makes it a lot easier for nutcases to get away with something like this. I sure hope they find who did it and punish them to the fullest extent of the law!

I don't really know the mind set of the McCain supporters but the apparent divid that a good portion of them is trying to set up in this country it's really hard to say.

That is really weird, and yes, I am apalled. It's obviously a threat, but I'm not sure in which direction the threat is being pointed. Either way, it is disgusting. If nothing else, I hope whoever did it gets in trouble with some sort of hunting violation. I mean, even if bears are in season, I don't think anyone expects a hunter to do something like this with the bear that's killed. Plus, it's a baby bear. Isn't that illegal in itself? I'm not a hunter, nor am I familiar with the hunting laws of my own state, much less North Carolina, but this definitely seems like a serious offense to me.

I know that in my state the law is that you cannot kill a baby of course if you hit one with your car and it lives the animal is allow to be put out of its misery. It's so apalling and I hope this is the only case of something so disgusting.

That is disturbing, but sadly, not surprising. Idealism can turn ugly quickly in some, it seems.
It is sad that hunters will be blamed for this. While personally I do not hunt, and disgusted by it, I empathise with their position as well. I doubt it was someone who considered themselves an avid hunter did that.
People's fear and unjustified hatred see no end usually. This could of been something done on either side.

I am very happy that this was the only case of awful stuff that happened during this election cycle.
I hope that now we as a nation can work together to help this country get back to the power nation it once was.
People will always be afraid of change.
