We are studying our family tree in one of my classes, and I have no clue as to what I am doing. I have checked google, and a lot of the sites have like birth certificates and things like that but they require you to sign up and pay for it, and I can't do that (I'm in college and broke lol), however, i do need this information. Is there any sites that has different certificates that you can check you familys geneology on? If so I would greatly appreciate someone letting me know about them. Thanks so much.

Genealogy is a lot of fun. And yes, unfortunately there are a lot of places now that charge that didn't used to charge. But there are still a lot of free resources out there. I don't pay for anything I do with genealogy, although I have paid at Ancestry.com for a couple of months a month at a time instead of the year at a time price. This is because I research in spurts and do not do it all year long. Also, I tend to get a lot done during the one month time period so that I really run out of things to look for after that, so it really doesn't pay for me to buy more time. It seems a lot of formerly free sites have sold out to Ancestry also and that is not good for people like you and I who don't have the money to pay. I am a member of a really good genealogy chat room you can join at http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~genealogylookup/chatroom.html and once there, you will find more help than you can even think to ask for. They are a great bunch of people there. Also, the best place online to find sources for genealogy is at www.cyndislist.com which is a website run by a lady who is continually updating the site so that the links there are generally always good, and there are hundreds of them. Also, ancestry.com has it's free areas as do many of the other sites that charge. Use as much as you can of the free stuff and that will help a lot. Another good site that is mostly free is at http://www.familysearch.org/eng/default.asp and you can use that to find a lot of good information. Remember that what you find online is not always accurate, because it is all complied by people just like you and I and we make mistakes.

The sies that capirani listed are great sites, another one is ancestry.com. They have both a free (limited to certain things) and a pay membership. I did most of my family tree from a free membership to their site. But, the BEST place I know of for getting this type of information is from the Mormons. They have records available to the public going back YEARS and YEARS! You would REALLY be surprised and what they will have for you. Good luck in searching out your relatives! Nocturnica
