I lost my umbrella again! Absent-minded or careless!

Absentminded or careless...whatever! I felt bad because I lost my umbrella again. It's not because of the umbrella alone but more because of the the fact that I did it again and again and again! This is not the first time it happened to me. I can't count anymore the number of umbrellas I have lost in my life. I don't know if I really am absent minded or careless! I think both! Not only umbrellas, I have also lost a lot of hankies and hand-fans as well. Have you been losing things and never learning like me? What are the things you always lose? Or am I the lone absentminded and careless one in this world? Hu!hu!hu!

Well umbrellas aren't really something you use every day and when you come rushing in from the rain, you're more concerned about getting dry and warm than where you dump your wet umbrella! So don't feel like you're absent minded. Perhaps you can put up a special hook next to your front door so you can hang your umbrella to dry each time you come in. That way you will always know where it is.

Oh the problem is I use it everyday. I dread sun rays after 8 am so I always have to use my umbrella. But poor me, I left it on the bus as i went down to walk my way to my office. But at home, I really do have a specific place for all umbrellas. That one I lost is my favorite because it is more handy than the others. thanks for sharing dear! Have a nice day!

Don't be too hard on yourself. Think on the bright side. For the umbrella, you will certainly bless someone else who has need for it. The other thing you can consider is buying an umbrella that comes with a sling strap, so you can carry it around as if it is a sword in the old Chinese fighting movies. I know how you feel, I have lost an umbrella before....good thing just 1, but other things, probably more than 1. Think of it as paying it forward.

You have a good point! Actually that is the best consolation I could ever have. What I lose, somebody else could find and can use it for herself. But though it is consoling, it is not to be an excuse to lose things habitually.

Well yes I guess that feels disappointing to know that you lost something especially when it happens all the time. In my case I seem to always lost my pen. Since I usually used that all the time its either my officemates would unintentionally take it when they borrow it from my table and would not return it back. With my umbrella I have one since last year and its rather old and dilapidated already but I just massage it and it would go back to its original form. But it is not suitable anymore for strong rains because it always has a tendency to fold up.

Well when it comes to umbrellas seldom do I lost them at all. i really do not know why but they stick to me till their are unusable at all. What irks me is that pen always is lost most of the time. I feel bad about it and what I did in Office is to put a string on it so that anyone borrowing it will not get it. So far I got it okay and has used one whole ink and I have to request for a new one already.

Yes it is because it happens all time and it's repeated again...never learning a lesson! And oh you mentioned it...right the pen as well. I never get to finish the ink of a pen. It get's lost before the ink get used up. And your dilapidated umbrella needs to retire my dear.! Ha!ha!ha! But don't lose the new one!

hahahaha Naku!!! my friend, why is it that we are pretty much the same? when I was yet in the there, I always lost hankies and umbrellas many times too. that is why I am not bringing umbrella unless it is raining badly. I can tolerate the heat, so no umbrella when it is hot. About the hankies? oh!!! I felt really bad specially that Carozo brand? those were a little bit expensive hankies and I always lost it on the jeepneys, in malls or wherever I will go. when I am in the jeepney, I still have it but when I am already in the house? I can't remember where did I drop it.. carelessness I think? hahaha in my part. What I did for the hankies is tie it in my neck or in my wrest so that I will not lost it.. hahahaha.. you can do that my friend.. it is like a sort of fashion... hahaha but the truth is you want to avoid losing it.. hahaha

Thank you for giving me a good idea. Now, I will tie my hankie round my wrist.I'll make sure though that the hankie matches the color of my dress! Fashionable is it tnot? Ha!ha!ha!

That makes alot of us being absent minded. I have decided not to buy another umbrella after losing 8 or 9 of them. I'll just borrow from our neighbor so that i have a responsibility in returning the umbrella making it a priority to make sure the umbrella is returned :)

So this is another proof that I am not alone in this world which means I have nothing to worry. It seems like forgetfulness is a common thing to most people. Well actually I've just added another lost umbrella in my list after that one.

The hard part in losing stuff is if you lose it outside the house because there's no chance in getting it back again. I just don't lose umbrellas, also cellphones, wallets, keys, and sometimes documents. But among the things that i lost, only the cellphones and the umbrellas were not returned.

Personally as a person who has lived in the Seattle, WA area for over 15 yrs. now, oh how I can truly relate with this one. I am not sure how many umbrellas I have lost, had stolen, or broke on me over the yrs. and am really lucky if I can go thru without having to buy like 2-3 new ones a yr. sometimes. It is getting to the point where I can get the ones from the Dollar Tree which seem to last me about as long as ones from anywhere else even. But when one does disappear, or I leave it somewhere, I only hope that the person who finds it somewhere needs it even worse than I.

Yes I think that the best spirit we could ever put up when we lost something. Just hope that the person who finds it somewhere needs it even worse than we do. Instead of crying over something lost just believe you have just helped somebody who found it.

neither of the two is the answer to your question. the truth is we are not that organize and we just put things anywhere we want to. our body has its own system of remembering things automatically when stuffs are placed at the right places. i experienced losing my umbrella a lot of times, until a friend told me to have a place where my system can find it.

Good Morning! Thanks for responding to this old post. What you said is something new to me, but it sounds sensible! I believe that our body has its own system of remembering things automatically so maybe I should start placing things where my system can find it. And before that I should first find where is the right place.

Ha!ha!ha! So you admit it is a sign of old age. I'm also tempted to admit it's a sign of old age but can't really totally say so because as far as I remember I have always been like this since I was young. Thank you for sharing and have a nice day!

I lost a lot of umbrellas already. That's why I leave my umbrellas at home. I just brought one in the office, so that in case I need it during sunny days or rainy days, I will have one to use. I don't know why, but when it comes to umbrellas, I'm really forgetful!

Oh we are very much the same forgetful fellows! I also did try not bring umbrella anymore because of my forgetfulness but I really need to bring one because I don't like sunlight coming into my face. Around 8 am, the sunlight is already warm and I can't bear it anymore so I need umbrella. It's still some 5 minutes walking from the road to my office.

no, u are definiely not the only one who is absentminded. i don't ;ose umbrellas because i very seldom use them. what drives me nuts is putting something up here in the house & then can't remember where i put it & have to turn the house upside down to find it. so just the crowd, you aren't alone.

Ha!ha!ha! Same here. I also tend to forget where I kept things. But what drove me to laughter is the when you said you turn the house upside down because that happened to me literally several times. My husband could only say: "Here we are again!" Ha!ha!ha!

You are not alone my friend. I have been losing umbrellas too, that is why i don't carry one anymore just to be sure that i don't lose it again. I can't explain it either. Or maybe it is because umbrellas are somewhat big or bulky that we tend to put them down like when we go to other places or when we are buying something,to re ach for our wallets, we put them down. So, when we leave we tend to forget about it and when we do realize that we have forgotten it then it is too late.

Well dear that is a good attitude. In everything we have to be really positive. Whether be it loss or gain, positive thinking should be employed. But lest we become careless forever we should also learn to think about the reason why we do lost things. There is always a lesson to learn in everything if we only think deeper. Yes it is consoling to the heart when we think and say, at least it is only an umbrella, or it is only a head cap, or it is only a hanky,or what it may be nevertheless this should teach us to be more careful the next time around. Thanks for your response and do have a nice day!

I am an umbrella misplacer too. I always leave it somewhere. I do have an umbrella I may have had for some while now, and the only reason I still have it is because I stopped using umbrellas. Between me and my husband we have misplaced so many umbrellas. Usually I am going from the house to the car and from the car to my distination, so I just do without an umbrella and run real fast

I feel very sad to hear that from you! It is really very painful to loose something. What you have bought with your hard-earned money is always favorite item to you. I am not saying that what you get as gift are not favorite. I think, what is earned at the cost of physical labor is always favourite naturally. You should be very careful buddy. Probably you are a bit absent-minded. If you go anywhere, then give special attention on your umbrella. Every now and then try to remember what you have taken with you. Then the chance is very little you loose it again.

It is funny because throughout my life i have lost things but fortunately retrieved most of them. Now days I try to stay very organized and focused because even if I recover my lost things the enormous amount of energy and time its taken me to find things I decide to get a handle on this problem and overcame the absent mindedness or whatever. I very happy that I have.

I keep losing umbrellas just like you. If they don't fit into a purse or something, like I need to carry it in my hands, then it's gone. I leave it somewhere and just remember hours later. I love big umbrellas that cover me entirely, but they are the easiest to lose. I once lost a scarf at the movies. And a silver necklace at the x-ray room. I'm still sad about the necklace!

Exacrly, exactly my dear, you are very much like me. I also do lose anything not in my purse. If I just hold it on my hand...I'd lose it. The last umbrella I lost is a gift from a friend. It was a very lovely pink umbrella with laces. It was just one week old. Hu!hu!hu! Just like your feeling with the lost of your silver necklace. Tsk!Tsk!Tsk! Thanks for sharing! Have a nice day!
