the important news is most people can be successfully treated for depression with the help of medicine, is psychotherapy ("talk therapy"), or a combination of both. medication today there are prescription medicines called selective serotonin reuptake indibitors, also called SSRIs, which are the most prescribed treatments of depression. Another form of treatment is psychotherapy. together with a psychiatrist or other qualified healthcare professional, you may explore your experiences, relationships, events, and feelings that are meaningful to you. therapy of this sort can help you find better ways of dealing with your problems. so talk to your doctor and together you work out a treatment plan that's right for you.

I know well that depression is indeed very treatable. It actually starts with oneself. Depression basically stems from the problem of acceptance. If one starts to accept things and learns to move on, then one would finally be able to accept. However, one of course needs external factors (help) for one to finally move forward in life. Help takes on many forms.

If one starts to accept things and learns to move on, then one would finally be able to accept. I'm sorry but its not always that cut and dry..I'll NEVER "accept" what was done to me...it was and still is (the parts that still go on) cruel, heartless, vile, uncalled for and the list goes on...I DO accept that its happened mind you but that was yrs ago (that I accepted the fact of the matter) but just "moving forward" in life isnt that simple..it takes a lot of work healing first and foremost and that takes a very long time ya know. The harsher the trauma, combined with the support or lack of that one has also is a huge factor...

Yes depression is "treatable" to one degree or another...sometimes one can completely overcome it...other times its something that is with a person for life (which is my case) but they are able to manage it with therapy and medication etc..I think a huge key though is above anything, DESIRE....The desire to change things however big or small is IMO the very first step..otherwise the therapy, medication etc etc is all pointless really becuase you'll never make any headway ya know..

I totally agree. I've had depression my whole life, although never really knew it. I was diagnosed about 5 years ago, but still didn't think it was that big of a deal. It hasn't been until the last few months that I've really noticed myself going into these "funks" as I like to call them. I've finally realized that I just can't get myself out of these funks, mostly because when I'm in one, I don't have the desire to try to get out of it. That has led me to the decision that I am finally going to get on medication to treat my depression. Therapy is also on my list, and probably my preferred method, but it's really not possible right now due to cost and time.
