What do you do...

I've had a migraine going on two days now. I hate it because of the pain, the sensitivity, the lack of energy and the nausea. Last night, someone popped some popcorn in the microwave, and the smell just hit me all wrong. Now all I can eat is ginger snaps and some occasional toast. I'm only up for a little bit because I needed to take some medicine to try and bring the migraine under control. What's even worse is the fact that typical migraine medicine like Imitrex actually makes my migraines worse. Go figure, eh? What do you do when you have a migraine? Do you have a food that you can eat that won't cause you to be sick?

Everything and then some makes my migraines worse. I hope yours gets better. Many of us have been there. I found that dark rooms help. I lay for about 5 minutes on a heating pad on the back of my head help, along with an ice pack on the forehead. It confuses the nerves and eases it back up. I found that imitrex didn't help until I did that. It seems that imitrex makes it worse for about 15 minutes before it kills the migraine. Try that and see if it helps, if nothing else tell the doctor you need something different. I think its called topomax or something along that lines. I can't eat when I have a migraine, or smell anything. I found that vicks vaporub on a cloth near me seems to ease the pain and nausea! Good luck honey!

Well, I hope you feel better. The other thing is try the baby vicks, it's softer in the scent or a humidifier with it in the room. Silent white noise helps too. Or shower in the darkened bathroom, with your head down, back to the shower. The ice pack afterwards helps out tremendously! Good luck!

I'm going to try the vicks vaporub thing when I can get some. A lot of times I get a cool washcloth and use it to cover my eyes as I rest. I think I'll be heading back to bed in a little bit to rest more.

I have tried the Topomax for about a year now, can't tell it has helped at all. I have found the Imitrex shots work better than the tablets. The tablets work for me sometimes but usually take alot longer than the shot. I have been researching for some alternative methods of relief because of the frequency of my migraines (3-5 times a week) and when I have to take the migraine medication that often it makes me really moody. I had heard about the vicks vaporub, and have also heard about using peppermint oil, castor oil, and 2 aromatherapy oils called sunbreeze & aveda blue oil. You would think if they can do lung, liver, & heart transplants, they could figure out what causes migraines and find a cure for them. I've them for going on 20 years and they worsen the older I get.

i hav to sit in dark room with my head kept cool and my body warm e.g. sitting under the window wrapped up in a blanket. I also find i dont by special medication i just take 2 paracetamol and 3 asprin. I like to hav soup when i hav a migrain as ther is no chewing involved.

I normally rest in a dark room and try to block out the sounds. Sometimes it's hard to rest because of my nieces. I know that they don't understand what a migraine is and I try to explain it, but that doesn't help them to understand that the loud noise makes it worse. I may see if I can tolerate chicken noodle soup later.

This is the best advice. Just keep your head cool and your body warm and stay in the dark. I think that some people need special medication, and some people just need the paracetamol and aspirin like you said. That is a good idea about the soup. Thank you for your advice, this is what I would also say!
