do you bring your work at home?

since i work from home, i obviously have to . but there is a saying that what duties you have in the office must be left there, as going home means its family time. they say it's a bad idea to bring your work at home, because the quality time that you should have been spending with the family is still spent on work instead. but i think at times one cannot avoid it, especially with a deadline looning fast, or an urgent matter that has to be dealt with immediately. so do you think it's a bad idea? to bring your work at home?

I'm a kindergarten teacher...and sadly I do bring work home. When the school year started it was almost everyday...but I planned my time well and now it's reduced. Yes, it does eat into quality time. And I don't think it should. But I am the kind of person who cannot rest till my work is done. And sometimes I push myself too much for it. I spend time with my family and then stay up to finish the work I got home...so that takes a toll on me mentally and physically. So, I've worked things out so that I'm not stressed that my work isn't done.

It's hard to manage time when you have a little child at home. You can't fix up a perfect routine. Little children need flexibility...and some days they aren't well and their routine goes for a toss. That's why I am finding it tough too. My younger one is just 23 months old and before he came along....I had great time management. But now it's getting tougher on me. It will be a year or two before things settle down.

yes, it is very hard. especially right now that she's teething. she doesn't want to eat and cries a lot (i am not used to her crying a lot, see. she's a happy child most of the times). i worry so much that i can't concentrate on my work. so i guess you're right that it will be a year or two before i can be in full control of my time again. thanks for sharing!

that's great time management you got there. i wish i was more like you. ever since i quit my regular job and become a work home mom, i feel like i have wasted more time in front of the pc than spending quality time with my husband and my daughter. but i try to compensate for it, by being the one who feeds my daughter at midnight or in the wee hours of the morning. i know i should be doing more than that, and i am trying so hard to work it out.

If one has to bring work home, then either he is inefficient or he is having more work than he can handle and needs a subordinate. It is better to spend an extra hour in the offivce and finish off the work rather than carrying it home. As per Parkinson's Principle, work expands according to the time available.. if yo vbrign work home, youwill keep working on it and it willnot be over even till the time you are ready to go back to office.

i think that does not apply for teachers. i have two teachers answer this discussion and they say that they have no choice but bring it home with them.

Hi kayedanda. Well it may be but I always needed to do this because I'm a teacher so I need to correct the students' work. And the teachers do this at home because we don't have time to do it only in the school.

hmm..i didn't think of teachers when i was posting the discussion but you are right, teachers have no choice but to bring their work home lest they want to stay until the evening at school. my husband's mom is a teacher too, and every night, she would sit down and make her lesson plan, check papers and grade student assignments. teachers are the most patient people in the world, i think

I bring work home with me from time to time because it is easier to work when I have a place to sit and write. I don't have that now because they have a new girl at work.

My work is home base and i think it is not a bad idea bringing your work at home as long as you are doing your duties and responsibilities for your family.

hi kaye! i sometimes bring home work when there's a deadline and i couldn't finish it in the office. but that seldom happens and i'm still single so there's no family time, like time for husband and kids, to worry about. and whenever i bring home work, i would still have time to interact with my family, play with my nephew and niece, talk to my mother and sister. i don't think its bad to bring home work as long as you know how to balance your time.

I work from home too. When I worked in an office I brought home the politics of it. Or the gossip. Anything that angered me. I'd then vent to my hubby. I guess that is another reason he may be glad I work from home now.

I am away from my family and it's fine bringing my work my apartment. It's not really a burden to me since I enjoy my work anyway. It's just the time that matters.

I have a philosophy in life that work should be seperated from your personal life. This means that i really dont bring work at home cause i want to spend my time with my family and have a time for myself. No matter how loaded my work is , i will not bring it at home. Problems at work should only be at the work place. If i got any troubles at work then leave it there.

I don't bring my work at home except for that time when the computer at the office broke down so I had to do some computer work at home. I also had a work where it's okay to bring work at home than coming to the office but I refused because I have other things to do at home and I can't relax if I work at home. Teachers bring their work at home because they have lots to do. My mom used to do that and sometimes I help her check papers.

I usually bring home some work especially if it urgent of it happened to be needed the day after. But as much as possible, I try to finish everything right and on time. It is so stressful if I bring home some work when the time spent doing it is supposed to be spent with my family of just relaxing and watching TV. It is okay to bring home some work but not everyday. We need to spend some quality time at home also. =)
