While up North at the farm I found a bunch of old family movies. Some of these date back to the late 50's. They are in 8 MM and 16MM reel film formation. Can they be transferred to DVD form? Is this an exspensive process? Where would I look for this kind of thing in my area? Is there any techie items I can buy to do this transfer myself? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks all.

Yes, there are ways of transferring them. But I don't know what they are. My husband has lots of movies of our children and he's going to put them on CD's. Do a research on the Internet for the ability to transfer the reel to reel film on to a CD/DVD. The information is out there. If my husband was home, I'd find out from him what you have to do in order to do it.

Yes, he just got home. He said first you have to get them from the reel to reel to your VHS tape. You might have to take them to a photo shop and have that done. Then, you have to buy a Digital Photo converter. His is a DVD Express DX2. You connect that to your computer through your VHS recorder and transfer them to your computer. Once you transfer them to your computer, you have to make sure they are in a DVD format. It takes a long time to create the movie. Then, when that's finished, you can transfer them to the DVD. My husband said to tell you that it is VERY time consuming!

I do know it can be done as my sister had some put on dvd's from our family. THey also transferred a bunch that was done on a movie camera. How they did it I don't know....all my sister's sons are big into computers so I think they probably did it themselves....

We had our 8mm transfered to VHS eons ago. I know that you can buy the machine to do it from "anything" to DVD, and I think it's only a couple hundred dollars. It doesn't cost much less than that to have someone do it for you. The guy that did mine added music and stuff too.

I also have a lot of the old reel to reel 8 and super 8 movie reels that I keep saying I'm going to take to CVS or one of those places that will transfer them to DVD's for me. Hopefully I'll do it before the new year.

I would imagine there are various places in larger towns that would do the transferring process for you. You might want to even see about Walmart, because I know they will do VHS to DVD transfers.
Last I knew, the cost for the VHS to DVD transfer was close to $30 for each VHS tape. I had looked into it because I have a lot of video footage I need to convert before it degrades. However, with the transfer from VHS, I have the option of getting my own VCR/DVD recorder. The prices are dropping, and I'd rather go with one of them, especially since the cost would likely be less than getting all of my other tapes to DVD from a professional.

It can be done. It is time consuming and not easy. Depends on how many movies you want to convert, I can ask my business partners for price.
We are doing such service but not too often. My partners are experts with all film files.

Yes they can be transferred to DVD but I do not know the cost. I think that if you want to keep them tranferring to a DVD is a smart way to go.

Well this can be done but I dont know the cost, you should be abile to pay for it. all you need to do is search the net for a company that will do that for you and find the closest one to you. if there is not one close to you then all you have to do is find out the details and post them. just tell them what you want them to do and how many copies you want, adn they will do the rest.
