poverty has many dimensions.globally poor people disproportionately live in Africa.the largest number live in asia.a significant number are in Latin America and caribbean countries.up to 80 percent of the people in several sub-saharan Africa countries and Haiti are poor, and more than one-quarter of all people in developing countries togather are poor.

I think you have to be careful with statements like this. Remember that the purchasing power of these countries is not the same. You cannot compare US$1 in a 'poor' African country with that in the West. Obviously a dollar goes a lot further there. What matetrs is the cost of living and disposable income. yes - they are likely to have low figures on these and lack basic necessities but thinking of poverty in purely financial terms is one-dimensional. Are we happier in the west because we have more zeroes on our pay packets? I think not. The problem is the media continue to create unrealisable expectations in western people to encourage them to spend spend spend on things they do not need to keep capitalism going. This does not affect the 'poor' part of the world. They are only buying what they need. If we lived as frugally as they do then we would be able to work less and live more and be happier! Try it!
