I know that vitamin C is good for fighting infections, below are other reasons you should take vitamin C:
Too little vitamin C can lead to signs and symptoms of deficiency, including:
Dry and splitting hair
Gingivitis (inflammation of the gums)
Bleeding gums
Rough, dry, scaly skin
Decreased wound-healing rate
Easy bruising
Nosebleeds
Weakened tooth enamel
Swollen and painful joints
Anemia
Decreased ability to fight infection
Possible weight gain because of slowed metabolism
I do not take vitamin C tablets, but I do drink a lot of orange juice.
You can also get vitamin C from fruits and vegetables.

Vitamin C is very helpful in flu prevention more than treatment.
It is proven to burst your immune system.
It is much better to have natural source of Vitamin C than a pill.
Oranges, lemon and apples are the best source.

High doses of Vitamin C could prevent cold infections. While the book quickly became a best-seller, modern scientific studies have refuted its claim, time and again. Thousands of participants have been carefully observed and their Vitamin C intake carefully monitored, and no preventative properties have been discovered when individuals take large amounts of Vitamin C throughout the year.
When an individual regularly consumes an adequate supply of Vitamin C, however, it has been shown that they are less likely to contract colds. This is particularly effective with children and individuals who are prone to contract multiple cold viruses. It is not known, however, if this is the result of the body having a steady supply of Vitamin C or if individuals who regularly get enough of the nutrient naturally have stronger immune systems because they also ingest adequate supplies of many other vitamins.

I think I'm not the appropriate authority to say that vitamin C definitely shortens the duration of a cold because for one, I'm not a physician. Also, I'm not the type of person who likes citrus fruits so much; though I do eat them occasionally when there are ripe ones.
But personally, based on my own experience, I don't catch a cold often but when I eat citrus fruits, my system tends to interpret it in such a way that I do develop colds afterwards. I know this is quite peculiar and I guess I have a condition which is strange but I just brush this off from my thoughts until I could possibly consult a local doctor about this.
At present, I do take vitamin C in capsule form to strengthen my immune system because as they say or claim, this is a great way to protect oneself from common colds.

Could be, I can't say for sure. My hubby buys the childrens chewable C and we give it to her often. I know she likes the taste. And it can't hurt us. So why not. What do they say? An once of prevention is worth a pound of cure.

Most doctors will say this also. I think that it is true!
But we need a small amount at a time, because our bodies do not store the vitamin C..
Like 2 ounces every 1-2 hours of juice.
