My husband bought an energy efficient heater and I like it.

It's was only $60.00. It throws heat like you're standing in front of a wood stove without the smoke and problems. It's programable with automatic shut off and when it reaches temperature. I love it. We used to have a sealed oil radient heat space heater and our bedroom was either way too hot or way too cold. It took forever to warm up and it didn't shut off. WE were freezing or boiling. This new heater is great, I love it. Finally, we can sleep in peace without taking an hour to get to sleep and 3 hours later boiling. .
Have you bought anything recently that you really liked? Or something you're suprised how well it works?

What kind is yours? We have one like that, it looks like a regular radiator. We used to have one that has a fan, but it was very noisey at night, this has no fan, so no noise.

It's a ceramic element heater by Lasko. It's not any noisier than our hot air vents. So I can drown it out when I sleep. This one doesn't look like our other ones that were radiators and took too long to heat up and had no thermostat. This one looks like a tower, it can swivel if we want too. Don't know why we would want it to, but it hasn't hit subzero yet, so you never know. Thanks and take care.

I just turn my matress pad down to nearly nothing when I get into bed. Like Barbie said, with the covers over you, once the bed is warm you do not need it to be heating. It is great for arthritis.

I too like my heater, I set it to what temperature and when it get to that spot it shuts off and will only kick on if I want it to be more hotter or coller not wasting so much energy ruuning all the time.

Yes, it sounds like you have a really good heater, too. Guess we're both better off with these new types of heaters. Thanks and take care.

What type of heater is this? We have been looking for alternative heating sources. We do have an electric blanket that warms us up so we can get to sleep. A down comforter keeps us warm in the night. But, we need something to help keep the house warm when we are home.

Ceramic element heater by Lasko.
Electric, if it falls over, automatic shut off and programable so it shuts off when it hits temperature (and easily programable, not like some). I love it. Thanks and take care.

I've always been afraid of space heaters. So many fires are started as a result of someone just not paying attention or they overheat. Like the idea your new one has a thermostat. What I do is layer my clothing in the winter and peel off as needed.
The only thing I have bought recently is a craft knife called a Quick Point so I can use to cut or trim various items. It was very inexpensive and will be very useful eventually.

Don't know how you can stand it with no heat. It's so cold in the northeast during the winter. It's cold here but not like there.
Going to use this snap off blade knife to cut a slit in the top of a plastic lid. This should be alot easier and faster than using a regular kitchen knife. Looks like a good tool to use for other things as well. Think it was $1.25 at Walmart and has to sizes of blades and holders. Don't think this would work for cutting or trimming rags or other material.

The new space heaters have all kinds of shut offs. Shut off when knocked over, shut off when overheat, shut off when reach a temp (this one anyway). Has 4 sides and the heat only goes out one side. The other three sides, you put your hand an inch away and no heat, only where it blows it out. We have fewer space heater fires since the new style ones in our area, the old ones still do once in a while. More the ones with kerosene when people try to start them.
I hear about the electric blankets starting on fire more than anything.
I layer clothing, but not that much when going to bed. Our bedroom is on the second floor and there is no heat on that floor at all. In sub-zero, I would have to have a sub-zero snowmobile suit or a sleeping bag rated to minus something, not sure what. So we need a space heater or some way to keep warm on the second floor.
I've never heard of a quick point craft knife. Sounds very interesting. I want to buy a knife for cutting lots of clothes into scraps for a rag rug or maybe a rag vest. We'll see. I don't have a knife for that yet. Thanks and take care.

Can't stand it with no heat, that's why we have to have some kind of heater up there. Oh well, old farmhouses have character, sometimes not much else.
Too bad, I really need something really, really good for cutting. Thanks and take care.

I have been singing the praises of a heated mattress pad for at least two years. I have not priced them this year, but it was about sixty bucks. You have dual controls and turn it on a little while before you go to bed. It warms the whole bed, but lets me sleep in a cool room, which is what I like.Did you post a pic of your new heater?

Yes, I also have one and it is so wonderful to get into a prewarmed bed. I have a down comforter, but until I warm up, it does not help. I just prewarm the bed and then I fall asleep easily. If I keep it on all night, I do tend to overheat.

Your new heater sounds pretty nice and efficient. Glad that is working out. I am having trouble thinking of something we purchased recently and really liked. We don't shop real often but once in awhile, something "grabs" me and I buy it. I sure love my Keurig single serving brewing system. It's a coffeemaker that brews 1 fresh cup of coffee at a time and I love it! I can choose from 3 different sizes of cups of coffee and I can even choose the temperature. All I gotta do is press a button. It's great.

That sounds like a really neat device. I'm not very talented at coffee making, but my husband is (good thing, he's the one that drinks it). Take care

I am surprised that you are freezing while I am still feeling hot here. I am still in my summer clothes and winter seems still a bit far away even if it rained a little this morning. I hope you enjoy your new heater and it saves on your electrical bill. © ronaldinu 2008

26 degrees F last night, and the other night-had snow, light dusting the other night as well as sleet and hail. Froze with old heater, not with this one. When heaters take an hour to two hours to heat up, that's cold, but the new one is instant heat, Thanks and take care.

Verb tense is confusing me.
Did you need one and you bought one?
Or do you need one and you will buy one?
The way this is written, sounds like you have one. You need one. Not sure I understand.
Glad that you have new boots to keep you warm and that you like them a lot. Take care
