Physically...I get enough exercise from just running around the house all day. Mentally...I like to stimulate my brain, by doing crossword puzzles, composing music, or trying to solve the latest CSI, or Doctor House capers on TV. Other than that, I guess...smoking usually gives my lungs and heart great workout. (Just kidding.) I don't run anymore. But what gets me, is seeing these joggers, or quick walkers every morning come up to a red traffic light...wait there, and still keep bouncing around. I thought red meant STOP!? Also, people who invest in huge, expensive, home exercise gyms, turn me off. The way I figure it, if a person CAN'T get out and just simply WALK, then a home gym is O.K. But truthfully...if one just walks at a "normal" steady pace, while making themselves AWARE of their surroundings, then that should be sufficient. cdrxo

Some of my friends find that Tai Chi helps them get a complete workout. Perhaps you might want to try that? As far as motivation is concerned...you might want to think of it in these terms. "A real problem only exists, when you have a DESIRE to solve it." To motivate yourself, you need to CREATE THE DESIRE in order to achieve some sort of outcome or goal, otherwise...nothing will happen. In other words, give yourself a REASON to WANT to do it. cdrxo

Good point Carl. I think it's just so they can show off. Not only that, but you gotta ask yourself..."If they can run on the spot like that so well, then why do they feel it necessary to go anywhere, when they do it?"I figure...that if it's "fresh" air they want when they're doing it, then they can always jog in front of an open window at home, and achieve the same thing. cdrxo

My favorite form of exercise is swimming. It uses so many muscles and does not put a huge strain on your joints. I work at an indoor pool so we can swim all year around.I hate just plain old exercising it is just to boring to me.I love to walk, but I pulled cartilidge in my knee a few months ago and it bother me to walk on it for very long.

I have heard that swimming is very good. your moving your whole body against the water resistance! I have bad knees too, makes it hard at times to do all the walking that I would like to.

Walking is my favorite exercise, by far. A nice brisk walk out in the fresh air will lift my spirits for hours. Even if I can't walk outdoors and find myself having to walk on a treadmill, I like to listen to a good audio book and I feel like I have accomplished so much by the time I am finished. But I can't go without mentioning yoga. It is a wonderful escape for me and benefits all areas. I like the fact that it is so holistic and benefits every area wellness for me.

Let me start with what I hate to do and that is stomach crunches and back of the thigh exercising adn the reason why is, those are my weak spots and it is hard on me to do..What I love to do is dancing, and hiking, in that order..And why? Because it is fun..Nothing like putting on your favorite music and moving or going into nature and seeing all the beautiful wonderful things in the woods.. And the good thing about those 2 exercises, is the hiking is done when weather permits, but dancing can be done anytime, rain, shine, hot or cold..:)

I enjoy walking my dog every day. She keeps me motivated because she is a pain if I don't get out with her at least once a day but usually twice. I find now that I miss it if I skip a walk one day. I have to get back at it the next day. It gets to be a habit & it feels good. Not only is walking good for you physically but it is great for depression & other mental stresses. I'm not saying go out & get a dog but mine has been a great motivator & I love dogs. Any aerobic exercise that involves sweating & jumping up & down are big turn offs to me. I have bad knees & just feel awful after doing anything like that. Good luck!

I am unfortunately in the same boat as you are Louise and can't ever seem to find the motivation to get moving in this area at all. By the time my work day is finished I am usually too mentally drained and the same goes for when the weekend arrives. The closest I come to physical activity is exercising my wit and jogging my memory!

I've been scolded by my doctor not to do any exercise other than walking, and the back exercises that are very simple to do. Unfortunatley, sometimes my back hurts too much to do the back exercises! So I try to walk. I had a bad back and neck injury in a car accident many years ago, so this is the only thing they want me to try when it comes to exercise. I have found that I can do some low impact yoga. The exercise I hated most growing up was jumping jacks. I hate them even more now that I'm an adult. I don't plan to make them a habit for myself. lol

I have tried all kinds of exercise but non has made a lasting effort in me. I tend to find that exercises is a boring routine which I easily give up. I have tried walking but the weather sometimes prevent me from doing it and now the simplest exercise I do is the Indian squate.

Sorry it is not indian squat but is called hindu squat Keeping your back straight, lower your body by bending your legs until your thighs are parallel to the floor ensuring your hands are behind your body as you lower yourself. Your heels should rise as you come closer to the floor. 3. When you reach the bottom-point on the exercise push off your toes rapidly, raising your body until standing - this should be a fast explosive movement. You are aiming to perform one repition as rapidly as possible. As you rise yourself your hands should be infront of your body, parallel to floor. Remember to inhale as you lower yourself and exhale as you rise, focus on your breathing as it will enable you to perform more reps. As difficult exercise when you start but you'll improve quickly and notice good benefits.

I pretty much just walk and stretch. I used to do yoga but I have a bad disc in my back and I'm waiting for it to get a bit better before I start up again. I should do some weight training too but I've gotten totally away from that.

Yoga is really good but you have to be really careful and not get agressive with it, especially if you have back problems. You need a good teacher too. A bad one could put you in a position where you could really hurt yourself!

I love to walk, not especially for the exercise part, I just love to walk.. When I get started really good, I can walk for miles.. I have my quiet time and can think out some of my problems when I am walking and no one is talking to me.. I have always walked or worked at a job that required me to be on my feet all day, so it is second nature to me and it does have its exercise benefits.. I worked one job for about 10 years and I walked all day on that one, and the second job was 17 years and the only time that I sat down was on my lunch hour.. I really don't like any other kind of exercise..

Actually my favorite exercise is walking. Like to drive to a lake which is about 3 miles from home where they have a great, paved walking and biking trail. It circles around the lake. Just haven't been able to do it lately with my back problem so hopefully I can get back to this exercise in time. We have a nice treadmill in the house that I use once in awhile.

Eating. I know what you're thinking. "Pastor G, how can you engage in such an exhausting and dangerous exercise" The Answer: I have honed my skill over the past 37 years and have trained my body to be able to withstand such intense exercise. It used to be that just thinking about it would make me loose my breath. Now, however, I am able to withstand the physical and mental effects.

hi louiseknittel I used to walk but I havent even done that lately and I have a lot of weight to lose too. I used to do a lot of floor exercises but now I have had a bad fall, a broken shoulder then a shoulder joint replacement on my left shoulder its super hard for me'to get down on the floor at all.So walking is about the only exercose I can do safely. I used to swim but now we a re moving so I will have to see what I can do up there for exercise. I hate crunches so much yet they are supposed to flatten your' stomach. lol.

Oh goodness, Louise, I need to get my fat butt moving too. I have a recumbent bike here that I got from someone on freecycle, and I was doing pretty good with using it a little every day. Lately I've just been using it to hold my bags of crochet stuff that I'm working on, since it's right alongside of the couch where I sit when watching TV and crocheting. I love to walk, but it's hard to get going. Once I have my shoes on and heading out the door I'm fine, but I always say 'in a minute' and those minutes turn into hours and days, and I don't get it done. It's exactly a half mile from my driveway to the main road and that mile a day would be nice if I could motivate myself to do it at least a couple of times a week.

My favorite form of exercise is doing the pilates while watching its instructional video. I did that for a month, i guess. then I got lazy. I also did some aerobics at home and some hiphop abs. Mostly I love doing exercise in a dancy and fun way. I cant think of an exercise that I hate though.
