How to stop HACKERS

Hi everyone,
have you ever been hacked while useing the internet?
well its my biggest fear!!
i dont know how to stop people slicing into my computer and stealing all my personal stuff!!
If anyone has some good advice on this topic please help me keep my computer safe.
