The woman had not plotted any revenge in the real world, the official saidThe woman, who has been jailed on suspicion of illegally accessing a computer and manipulating electronic data, used his identification and password to log onto popular interactive game "Maple Story" to carry out the virtual murder in mid-May, a police official in northern Sapporo City said on condition of anonymity. This woman faces major jail time of up to 5 years. Do you think this is going too far? I mean it is a game! http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20081023/ap_on_re_as/as_japan_avatar_murder

That's ridiculous... going to jail over a game? That is going way too far. Some people take things a bit too seriously these days.

Wow! I cant see the D.A. even getting an indictment on this. You are right it is just a game. I guess I need to be careful when playing with my fiance online or on the PS3. The only crime I see is Computer Fraud....it is a game! What is the world coming to?!

This is just too much! If people fall under the influence of internet, and online world and lose the touch for reality is one thing, but the court should stay with their feet on the ground. 5y? She should very well kill him in person and serve the same punishment Ok, I agree she did use his passwords and loged in and did some wrong to him and should even be punished for that, but with reasonable fine not jail or 5000$. Its just internet and online game for christ sake.
