Do you think life is what you make it? I don't. I think this is a saying made up by rich or well off people in order to make themselves feel superior and make others who struggle in life feel inferior. For example let's say I have no money to send my kids to colledge but you do. Your kid will have a wonderfull carreer while my kid will struggle. Did your kid make his life wonderful and did my kid who never was given the chance make his life miserable? You tell me.

To me life is a series of choices. You make them everyday and they have a great affect on your life. Sometimes things out of your control interfere and take youw life down and unexpected course. So yes, i think I'd have have to say that life is what you make it.

you make a very good point. it is hard enough to make it in this world but when your parents are not well off and mine were not you do not just get things handed to you like these wealthy, spoiled and shallow people do. i have worked since i was 11 years old starting with babysitting so i could buy clothes and things i wanted as my parents could not afford that. i did not marry into money either so we still struggle and it is getting harder and harder and it is not for lack of trying either. my husband works everyday and i work from home doing 3 jobs not including the house work and chores. we have one child so it is not like we populated the earth with more children than we could afford or handle so we are responsible as well. i have always tried to do the right thing so if that saying life is what you make i were true then i would be well off today. so you are right. that saying stinks in plain english.

You are testament to exactly what I am saying. Life takes so many people through tests and trying times and the only thing you can do is try to keep a positive attitude and hope that life will smile on you one day. Until then keep your head up.

What goes up comes down and what comes down goes up. The rich were poor some day and the poor will be rich some day. It is a law of life. Watchout your child might still land up in college one day by his own hard work and perseverence.

of course, life is what we live... we modify ourselves with our own certain characters, we modify ourselves with our own way of speech, we modify our life style, we decide our goal, These are the things makes our life.... So, we live to make our life.....

life is beautiful - life indeed is beautiful. Come and feel how blessed we are with all the natures has to offer. Celebrate life and life has to offer.
Hi, life itself is a gift from God.But how we made our life is our choice. So go on make a better choice. Don't feel so discouraged with all the blocks, but treat them as an opportunity to learn from it. Don't let yourself feel so down and so inferior.Just believe in your self. Who else will if you don't. I know it is easier said than done. Try this my friend, believe that you can be what you believe. Keep this in mind. then make a choice to fulfill this. Many hindrance will fall left and right, so you can add some faith in it. ASk God's guidance to overcome all those fears and worries. And with our life, we have to take some Action Approach. Know what you need to do and then do it.Moves towards your goals. It is never too late. Just keep on holding on. Then have some Focus. Stay on course.Don't stop on the way, even the best get waylaid now and then, but those who are sure of the path they are on don't let themselves procrastinate for long. Truly believe you will get it and change your life now.Know that it is just a matter of time.If you fall off the horse, simply get right back on. Have faith.. It's worth the try....

Negative thoughts will reap negative results. Yes, life is what you make it. Just because you have no money doesn't mean you should just sit back and accept that. It means you work twice as hard as the next guy to achieve your goals resulting in being twice as proud that you reached them. I speak from experience. I came from a broken home, became a mother at the age of 7 (two weeks after my 17th birthday), have had more than my share of hard luck and my husband and I (the father of the son I gave birth to at 17) have worked our butts off to make life what it is today. If you sit around and pity yourself for the things you don't have in life you will never make efforts to gain the things you do want. Yes, life is what you make it. So get out there and make the best of it!!!!!!!!!!

It seems life had dealt you some, as you put it hard luck, but you have work through them and became stronger for it. I am sure that perhahs, if you had your way you would not go through them at all. Like one of my other responders said "I can not control what life will bring I can only control my reaction." I hope I quoted her right. Life teaches us and we must learn. I am sure you and your husband have worked hard and feel youv'e made a great life for your family, but this is not a question of what you have or how much you have done. This is about what life will bring to you tomorrow and the next day for as long as you live. And believe me whether you are one or one hundred life always brings something new. P.S. The education thing was just one example of one of life's aspects.

Yes life is what you make it. But if you only base life upon a monetary value then I can see where you feel mislead by this quote. I am not sure about your area...but here in the states there are federal grants and scholarships that allow children to go on to college. And if it was not for these types of programs I am not sure I would have obtained my BA. I did have to take out student loans for Room and Board costs and living expenses, but it was my choice since I chose a four year university.... Never say never. Life is what you make it. And it is not about money. It is about what you want and how you can achieve it no matter how long it takes. Oh and trust me a college degree does not automatically equal a wonderful cushy job....it's about connections, networking, and experience.

This proves my point because you live in the States you have access to these things, because of your up bringing in life you know where to go who to see and what to say. Some people's path in life have already been cut and some find the path through hard work and for some it is differcult to find the path at all. Even though they have the same desire the resources are not made available to them. p.s. The colledge education thing was just an example.

Well I have worked hard for what I do have becuase nothing was handed to me and I was not born with a silver spoon. All I am saying is if you look at the value of something by the dollar signs you will get bitter. I have been there and done that. Now I know life is much more important and valuable than the cost. My point about the education thing is this. Yes I went to school, but I did not have the connections and I wound up getting a minimum wage job seven years ago to make ends meet. I went through all the pity parties I could stand about how unfair life is and how embarrasing it was for me to admit I have a degree and earned min wage...but guess what...life was exaclty what I made it. I make a difference in people's lives and that is priceless. But then again I am in debt....so you have to make it what you want.

And anyone in the US can access this information by filing what is called the FAFSA it is a form that takes all your informaiton and links you to the types of grants and scholarships that are available to anyone. And you are right there are a lot of things available to people and they are not given info about. Which is sad. But that kinda goes with what you make of life. Sometimes you have to seach it out and not rely on others. But I hear ya on a level.

Not everyone who are successful now came from a well off family. So yes life is what you make it. If you are determine to reach your goal and never gives up everytime you fail then yes anything is possible if you just work hard to make it to the top. Some of those successful businessmen were once janitor and some are shoe shiner. But because they work hard and use there money wisely they succeed in life. Being poor is not a hiendrance of making it big if you really wanna reach the top. But some people complains everytime they fail. When something bad happen they easily give up. Being educated is possible even without the help of parents. Not all graduating student make it because they have parents who support them. Some of them are scholars while others are working student. Having a good life is a matter of choice. Opportunity will not come after you, you should look for it.

I don't care how rich or poor you are. Life is what you make it. If you want something bad enough, then you will work up until you get it. Money may be a big factor in getting what you want, but if it comes down to it, you will make it happen if you really want it. Personally, I believe that a person who struggles for everything they have, and doesn't resort to violence or theiving or something unlawful, then they are that much better of a person. Don't place blame on someone else for not working for what you want.

If you have money in this life there is not many problems you can not fix. This is the advantage the rich have over the poor. However this is not the question. I am sure life put hurdles in the rich people way to, but unlike the poor they are able to deal with most issues right away. This is not about the money, this is about the hurdles that life gives us all. I'm sure if the rich had their way there are some things in life that they would change. They only use this saying because they want to give themselves credit for where they are now, but one turn in life and this all could change. Who do they credit this to? Nobody makes this life anything this life makes us.

I can see your point. The two kids in the example don't have equal opportunities because they grew up under different circumstances. That is true. But I don't think it's true that only one of them can be happy. I've never been rich and there are many things I am not able to buy, but I have lots of other great things in my life. Money isn't everything, and being rich doesn't necessary mean having lots of money. It reminds me of a story I once heard: One day a father of a very wealthy family took his son on a trip to the country with the purpose of showing his son how the poor people live so he could be thankful for his wealth. They spent a couple of days and nights on a farm of what would be considered a very poor family. On their return from the trip the father asked his son: "How was the trip?", "It was great, dad", "Did you see how poor people can be?" the father asked. "Oh, yeah" said the son. "So what did you learn from the trip?" asked the father. The son answered: "I saw that we have one dog and they had four. We have a pool that reaches to the middle of our garden and they have a creek that has no end. We have imported lantern in our garden and they have the stars at night. Our patio reaches to the front yard and they have the whole horizon. We have a small piece of land to live on and they have fields that go beyond our sight. We have servants who serve us, but they serve others. We buy our food, they grow theirs. We have walls to protect us, they have friends to protect them" With this the boy's father was speechless. Then his son added "Thanks dad for showing me how poor we are!"

Sorry, but I don't understand your point, what is it that you want to discuss? My post is about money, but seen in a wider perspective it is about life. What I really meant to say was that your problems/challenges (no money, disabilty, different sexuality etc)don't determine the quality of your life. The circumstances of your life is not the most important thing, what really matters is how you choose to perceive those circumstances.

I guess using the education example was not the right way to go with this, so here's another example. Do you believe homosexuals choose to be homosexuals and throughout their entire life have people look down their noses at them. I do not think so but in life people go through different things for different reasons. This is not a question of being wealthy or not it's a question you making your life into what you want it to be. For a long time homosexuals were unable to do this be of biggetry and petty minded people. This is an obsticle that life gave them and after many years they are, just now dealing with it.

I acknowledge the premise that often those who have wealth, status, and abundant opportunities are apt to make broad, sweeping statements such as "life is what you make it." But even if you consider the source, it doesn't negate the fact that each individual can choose to live their life in one manner or another regardless of their circumstance. Even the most poorest and wretched of individuals can choose how they live their life. I can choose to make my life difficult, bleak, and discouraging or I can choose to find optimism, hope, and purpose in my life. My life is what I make it. There are days when I choose to make my life full of promise and then there are days when I have chosen to make my life full of pot holes and stumbling blocks. Your statement, "your kid will have a wonderful carreer, while my kid will struggle" is a broad, sweeping statement on the other end of the spectrum. Wealth, status and opportunity are not guarantees on how "your kid [made] his life wonderful" and "my kid who never was given the chance [made] his life miserable." So, in answer to your question: Yes, I think my life is what I make it. Thanks for the question ;)

Hi! This is my first post!!! Do I think life is what I make it? I have heard it said too! I don't know who said it or if they were rich or poor. But as for me, I have been poor all of my life and I have always struggled with something, I will again tomorrow. I accept that I don't have control over whatever it is but I do have control of how or if I react to it. Thanks for giving me more to think about! God Bless! Nevie

God bless you Nevie, for the right attitude in lfe is what makes you a winner. I think of life as a big coccoon shaping and making us into only God knows what. It is so unpredictable and so complicated sometimes and whatever it throws at us we have got to deal with so in fact I think we are what life makes us.

I believe life is what we make it to be although theres a limit to what we can do. Rich people used to be poor too, most of them started out with little capital too but in the end they got rich because they are successful. It takes alot of effort, hardwork and time to be successful, it does not happen overnight, it takes years. I believe as long as we work hard towards our goals, everyone will be successful in their own ways.

Most rich people will tell you that hard work has nothing to do with their success. If it was not birth right then it was opportunity. Opportunity is something that life presents us with from time to time. In my example one kid had the opportunity to go to school one kid did not. I have the opportunity to make money on the net. Some people do not. But like I said before this is not about the money, because like opportunity life also gives us hard times. And if we could we would avoid the hard times, wouldn't we? We can not, why? Because that is life!
24 Oct 08
Life is what you make it, some will be luckier than others but if you look at the successful you will see a pattern of hard work, persistence and creative thinking. No matter how much money one person earns it will not guarantee your kids happiness. Yes a good education puts you in good stead but if you have no work ethic then you may not have a wonderful life. Bear in mind money doesn't mean happiness, good health and fulfilling relationships are more important!

hi I don't believe in the saying that 'life is what you make it. Although i'm successful in life, i believe it has nothing to do what i do want. At the of 60, now i realize whatever i've done, i have been able to do just because destiny was favoring me. I know few people who became successful but now leading a miserable life. Did they want to make their life hell. Certainly not. Yet it happened. It happened because of it was suppose to happen. I strongly believe that everything in our lives is preplanned.

I think that it is a made up saying but you can always work on changing the way your life is going to be. Like the college concept, the person who has the money and can afford to send the kid to college on their own without any help then that is a good thing for them but others have to try to get scholarsips or just try to get their kid a pell grant. I know that there are several people who take out student loans and that kind of thing but I think that that just starts off the kids life as an adult with already having that debt on them. I think that they should make getting a good education more affordable and that kind of thing. I do think it is a made up statement to try to make those who can afford things feel superior to those who cant.

Hi Our life is what we make out of it.Even the great people have shown this,by giving their lives as examples. There ae troubles in every one's life that doesnt mean that life is miserable. We should learn to laugh at our woes. Then no trouble will trouble us.If we wish to make it beautiful and vice-versa too. !!!!!!!Life is beautiful and make it even more beautiful by love!!!!!!

Life is what you make it, nothing wrong with that statement. Even if you have the riches of parents but you are just wasting away money, you would not have any good life in the future. In contrast, as a poor person you might feel more determined to make it big. You will work hard and in return all the riches will be yours Life is what you make of it. No effort put into it will just produce zero results. More effort will give you a better life. Sure, every now and then unlucky stuffs happen, but that is to be expected. Work hard for it, you will never be wrong :)
