Gee, I Wouldn't Mind a $150,000.00 Wardrobe

I think a lot of folks have by now heard the scoop that ever since Sarah Palin was named as VP candidate for McCain back in August, her wardrobe has been revamped to make her appear great in front of the American people, at the tune of over $150,000.00. Okay, I can agree, who doesn't want to look their best and presentable, unfortunately the money was from funds that had been part of the GOP donations fellow that Americans who supported McCain gave out of their hard earned money. I can't help thinking that Republican donors of money would have liked to have seen the money used for real issues and not to "doll" up Palin in designer clothing The statistics are that $75,062 was spent on clothing and accessories for Palin and her family at Neiman Marcus, and $49,425 at Saks Fifth Avenue,$9,447,71 at Macy's and $4,716.49 for make up and hair care for Palin to keep her looking "nice" http://www.politico.com/news/stories/1008/14805.html {Warning: This is NOT a referral link, but a link to the article about Palin's expenses in clothing} I can't help thinking that Republican donors of money would have liked to have seen the money used for real issues and not to "doll" up Palin in designer clothing. I mean doesn't this kind of go against the down home, hockey mom image Palin has had? I heard a funny comment by one of the women on the show The View.."Well at least she's buying her clothes and not shooting them." I'm sorry but this kind of infuriates me no end. When was the last time you were able to spend $150,000 on clothes, make-up and hair in a period of about two months...heck I don't even think any of us have spent that much money on clothes in our lifetimes!

I think a lot of us could think of better ways that much money could be spent don't you? A lot of us would just love to have an extra $150,000 don't you think and certainly wouldn't go for just clothing

I had not idea this was going on, and I will admit that female political figures really do have to look pretty, but that really does sound like a lot of money. If I was supporting her [I'm not], this wouldn't be a deal breaker, but I sure don't really love her for this. It's just not making her look good in a different sense of it.

This is crazy. Some people have mortgage for 150K and it takes them 30 years to pay. Maybe she would better help some people to avoid foreclose and gain more attention with her heart than her look. Looking nice? it can be done from her own packet.

Well I read the article and looked at the slide show of her clothes, and that is really something. Apperantley clothes and great hair makes for a good politician. Geesh! I love clothes myself, but I would never want to spend that kind of money on them, I can find many better things to spend my money on. ( if I ever had money like that ).

Great minds think alike. I saw this and am stunned. That would give both my children (son comes in December) a wonderful college start. Or us a nice nest egg for retirement, the list could be long. People are out of work, going hungry, you name it. Shame on them.

Unbelievable!! I can't believe that amount of money was spent on her clothing AND on her family. Seriously waste of money. Whats wrong with her current wardrobe? ain't spiffy enough? can't she do her own makeup? why do the family members need new clothing? man some people have all the luck LOL The last time I bought something for myself was a black cardigan for work and that cost me $12 on sale from Target. It looks really nice with dressy black pants I may say so myself LOL

There are plenty of ways to still look spiffy and not spend so much right? And it sure detracts from the so-called down home image they are supposed to be portraying or the Joe the Plumber everyman image.

that doesn't bode good for possible election.already spending money frivously, which is exactly what that is if you're spending that much. i don't even think i could blow through all that money in 2 months.not on clothes anyway.i hate to tell them this isn't exactly a good time to show overspending like that to cash strapped americans.

Nuts when you think of it a person could buy and pay in full a pretty decent home for that kind of money, and you're right, with all the economic issues going on this is really bad timing for being so frivolous on their part

Pye, I have always thought of you as considerate and intelligent ,I never thought you would sink into the mud with this sort of commentary. The clothing is not Sarah Palins' and will be donated or auctioned off after the campaign. I think the American people have come to expect our leaders to look appropriate for the position.Would anyone take Sarah very serious if she dressed in a flannel shirt and jeans?Look how the media makes fun of Hillary Clintons' pant suits.I find it amazing how woman can pick each other apart over something so petty as a wardrobe choice.

I AM considerate and intelligent..hey I'm just reporting what I've been hearing and reading in the media.. The point is, is that money that in all good faith that was donated by taxpayers to the GOP was used to dress up Palin to look nice and in designer clothes to boot. Okay so yeah, she's going to donate the clothes to charity but big deal...one can attire themselves very well on a much smaller budget and there are many designer look alike type clothes costing thousands less. I mean who is to really know whether the shoes she's wearing cost under a hundred, or a few thousand just cause they're Gucci--the whole deal goes against the grain of trying to come across as a one of us, down home gals image

PS...this is just sending very negative signals...most people in America are struggling to pay their mortgages, car loans, grocery bills, etc...and she gets $150,000 in clothes in a space of two months..come on, that is NOT realistic

$150,000 in two-months... ???? i dont think i could ever spend that much for seven of us (in my family), even in the period of ten years.... i guess it is important for an important leader (to-be?) of an important nation of the world to look 'nice + presentable' to the public - plus, with the whole world watching... but.. i think most people in america could appreciate if the money was used for something else.. i am sure if the money was spent on something for the people's benefit, it could 'improve her image' much better... ??

I know I could never imagine spending so much money in only two months. As for her looking nice, there are plenty of ways to dress fashionable without such a hefty price tag...Yes spending so much money like that certainly doesn't improve the so-called down home attitude Palin is supposed to have

That's ridiculous! Who needs to spend that much on clothes and accessories anyway? I bet I could spend less then 1/20 of that amount and look just as "nice", hell, I wouldn't even have to spend that much!

I have bought a lot of clothes in my lifetime, but I seriously doubt that I've come anywhere close to spending that much As for Palin, as great as she looks, I'd say the Republican money was well-spent. When looking at Palin, I suddenly don't care about the issues of politics anymore, my mind wanders elsewhere

I agree, Pye! McCain and Palin keep telling us that they're just like us Main Streeters, but their actions never follow their words! Look at Barack and Michele Obama in comparison! Michele Obama bought some of her clothes at the Gap! They know what it's like to shop in a REAL store and budget money! Sarah Palin - $92 for a romper and matching hat for her baby! What? Old Navy isn't good enough? And lest you forget, all you Republicans, that was YOUR money they spent! If they have this type of carefree spending now, what do you think their spending is going to be like if they get into the White House?

Wow. Is that how much she paid for those clothes? She was ripped off! I mean, walmart has better looking stuff than that. Would it have broken her image if she spent only...oh lets see...$10,000...or $5,000. Would the public have said, "oh my. just look at what rags she's wearing", if she put on clothes that she only paid $1,000 for?

I think that was rediculous! It's right up there with her use of state money to transport her kids around. When talking about cutting budgets, they should look at their own expenses first. None of this "Do as I say, not as I do" mentality. What's scary are the RNC members who think it was a good investment. For $150,000 I could get a huge new wardrobe AND a new house to go with it. With real estate prices what they are (in many areas of the country), you could probably get a new car too! Glad she didn't need a car too, probably would have been a Rolls Royce.

LOL...good thing she doesn't want a better car to suit the image she's going after and yes it probably would be a Rolls Royce or BMW or Porsche...LOL I know most people could do a lot for and with $150,000 like pay up for a home, not just clothes

I saw Ms. Palin speaking about this this morning. She explained it as a misunderstanding. The clothing was in fact valued at those amounts, but most of it was donated to the campaign and will either be returned or auctioned off for charity. Don't get me wrong, I'm no Palin supporter, just thought I'd share what I saw. I think she's a nice enough lady, but not qualified to run the country.

It still makes you wonder though if she is elected as VP, will she get more taxpayer paid clothing just so she can look nice?
